im asking about what u have right now, cause if u actually have 2x 512 and 3 slots, u better get 1 more 512 than buying 2x1gb and throw away ur 512s.. this way u could sell ur vid card and take the extra money u saved with ram and get a new vid card... this would be pretty cheap

or buy 2 x 1GB RAM, sell your 2 512 MB's, sell your graphics card, buy a new graphic card. YaY!

alt tab out while you are in a game. Bring up your task manager and see how much of you cpu is being used. If it is very high go for the ram. If not then a video card would go along ways to fix your lag.

RAM should do it

a 6600 GT was almost top of the line when BF2 came out

oh man the hardware illeterates everywhere.. last summer there was the 6600gt, midrange, 6800, high-end, and the 7800, top of the line. ATI also had the x8** series. A 6600gt was not top of the line a year ago.

As for upgrading I'd say DON'T. save up and buy a DX10 pc. It's just not worth spending a lot of money on right now.

Totally agree, i cant understand where people get 128bit mem on gfx and call it new. 256bit gfx is crucial to this game and others these days .
I wouldnt wait for dx10, unless you want to wait over a year until the prices are actually reasonable. Id say 256bit card now and next a ram upgrade - to 2gb . then leave it forever . plan on a new pc in 1+ yrs.

Soon as I get the cash I'm going 2x1gb, I have a 6800gs.

Graphics are fine for me.

I have 2x512 corsair values (yes i know, they came with mobo) and theyve gone to shit. Varifying takes ages now and I'm sick of it.

I want to get another 1GB of ram. At the moment I have 4 slots, 2 of which have 512s in them.  Do I buy a 1gb stick or 2 512s? Is there any difference at all? It's oh-so-slightly cheaper to get a 1gb stick, but is there a difference in performance?

cheers for any help

Yes, it's dual channel at the mo - although the sticks are in slots 1 and 3.  It's DDRII on a Dell (gasp) 5150, 533mhz and a cl of 4.

my vid card is an x600
