Try turning down the Mhz on your GPU on MEM on the video card

I have seen similer problems due to overclocking.  If your  video card over heats it will also have the same problems,   try opening your case door, and try mounting a fan around your video card.   Good luck

Over-overclocking usually generates different types of artifacts, and if the heat is too high, the GPU should shut down automatically (or freeze).

I can't do anything anyways cause I've already sent it off for a replacement.

Remember to REINSTALL DirectX after patch. Sometimes you have to reinstall the drivers too.
Once when I updated Catalyst, the driver was full of garbage that made the same "effect".
I have had that problem ( even when drivers were ok) with ET and some others too but only if the card had hard OC (the GPU or memorychips or both will go grazy..). You don't have to drop the AGP to 4x...it will do nothing.

Now when I have x800xt...no problems.

Hey i have been having the same issue with my 6600GT screenshots look almost identical to yours.  The screen/computer completley freezes and I have to re start.  I have checked the temp of the video card and I'm sure its fine.  Also after re starting I can sometimes play for 2+ hours  so if it was a heat issue I would think this would not be possible?? could my card just be going bad?  I have run the card overclocked in the past but with BF2 I dont overclock at all. Any other 6600GT users having problems?

PS ( maybe i can use this as an excuse to get a 7800GT haha)

Hi guys,

I have a ATI 9600 pro 128mb and i have this problem too, look at the screenies:

Most of you say it's a overheating problem but i haven't overclocked my card and with other games like Call of Duty 2 i have no problems. Also my temperature is good, my motherboard is always around 35 degrees. And it happens not always, when i install old or new drivers, the game plays without this bug for around 2 days before getting back too this shitty problem. i have tried everything; installing old drivers, new drivers, omega drivers, mobo drivers but nothing works. Is there someone who can help me out?

This is my system: AMD 64 Athlon 2800+ 1536DDR-ram pc3200 ATI 9600pro 128mb.

probably it is just the patch. My 256 mb X600 Pro (got it at Newegg for 80 bucks) crashed often when my computer overheats (stupid eMachine case) after I recovered my computer from another, non-BF2 related problem, the overheatong ended and it plays fine in higher graphics setting before the recovery (6x AA, Med-High settings etc.) which is weird anyway, patch problems.

So you think with patch 1.2, the problem is away? I hope so cuz i like bf2 very much.

well i lost 2 Graphic cards...1st: Nvidia Geforce FX5500 256 mb - Durance 3 months...just went point black at start up to windows...
2nd : Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE 256 mb - durance 4 months he started to fail at almost every aplication that uses a bit of video....just went black...
Shop Response : said that it was my fault that i just put too much weight on it (games requirements). i really stood there with open mouth looking at this dumb fuck being a Technical informatic...i thought wtf! the most idiotic thing i ever heard....right so a game of 2000 (MOHAA 64 card requirement)  would be too much for my Geforce 256 MB....FUCK YOU it,s in the WARRANTY AND GIVE ME A NEW ONE!

and now i,m running on a Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE 256 TD (256 Ram) still working hope how long it lasts

Well I've just returned my 9800 PRO via newegg RMA, so I should get a replacement in a week or two. I'm now running off my old 9200SE so we'll see what happens in game with this...
That is so freaky.

I built my computer with a 9300SE and upgraded to a 9800 pro last year.  No problems for me with either card, other than that the 9200se sucked.  It's now in the system I build for my 10 year old daughter.  It runs Madagascar just fine...

Good Luck.

I had a Geforce FX5200 Ultra... I was playing Splinter Cell, and it got so hot that it fried some pathways, and also melted one of the plastic pins that held the heatsinc on.

Ya I've had the same exact thing happen to me a while back.  I was using a GeForce 6600 I believe.  I since replaced it with an ATI Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition, awesome card.  My sympathies as well, I know how much it sucks to lose video hardware especially considering how expensive a decent card runs.  My ATI ran me $350!!  Kind of sucks how you practically need twin GeForce 7800 GTX cards SLI'ed to get all graphics maxed.  I don't know anyone who has $1400 to piss away on just video cards.  Today's hardcore gaming machine can easily break $3,000 without breaking a sweat.  Even if you get one 7800 GTX or just a plain 7800 non-oc'ed, thats still around $450-550 for a video card, then if you want an AMD FX processor, no less than $500 for just the cpu.  Software developers need to learn how to make much much more with much much less and not stick it to us poor gamers who need to practically buy a protein folding supercluster to play a damn game.

Anywho...I just took a look on newegg.com for ya, seems they have a decent deal on video cards.  Not sure if you have AGP or PCI-E so I won't list any specific cards, but there are some decent ones.  An ATI X800 or X850 would suit you well or a GeForce 6800 GT, either shouldn't run you anymore than $250-300, maybe even less.

Good luck!
