My ping has been playing up aswell its usally 20-30 but has risen to 100+ (very high for me) also been getting a bit of lag.
But as of recent i have noticed a few servers with lag and some without
Also have you tried a Defrag (sometimes work for me)

what processes do you have running

Dude, more RAM is needed in your system! Your graphics are being bottlenecked by the lack of RAM which your graphics are trying to process in realtime.

More RAM is your solution, friend.

Take a look at what running .. you see lag in single and multi and ur pings are higher? get TcpView form http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TcpView.html .. see whats talking

well then it might be worth doing then!  I have the same processor as you, and before I installed the x2 patch I had to keep setting the affinity to single core from the task manager to get a stable connection.  In fact try that:  Start BF2, Alt+Tab out, goto task manager, right click bf2.exe and set affinity to either of the cores but not both - see if that makes a difference.  If it does then go to AMD's site and get the patch.

I dunno how you played 1GB without lag but I for one know that with more RAM, the game just feels better. To articulate, I'll simplify it the best way I know it best.

To me, RAM works like a funnel, the more RAM, the bigger the funnel, the higher amount of water will be yielded, in these terms we'll let water stand for realtime information & graphics processing.

So I see it like this:

\\            //  1 GB...          \\                  //  2GB
  \\        //                          \\              //
    \\    //                             \\           //
     ||  ||                                \\       //
                                             ||     ||

And so forth...

While the exit upon entry doesn't seem that significant, it's the process at which the information will be drained into this funnel effect where it counts, 1GB can handle a decent load, but definitely not enough worth dealing with. 2GB or more and you're set.

Just a thought, probably not the case, but sometimes modems (and Routers, if you got one) need reset. Every so often I unplug my modem plug it back in to reset it every so often. Sometimes it slows its performance...

Not  YOU articulate, the poster in his lag perception ... i probally didnt have lag because everything is very stable and cool .. I everyhting not necitiy (dev, ect) on vm's

I agree 2 felt much better ... but what he is talking about is CHANGE .. if he perceived one thing and now something is different  .. the fact he had 1 gb all along is not part of the troubleshooting equation.

And ur funnel model makes sense if ur refering to aperture ... the more memory the less paging occurs.
