New computer trouble

Hi, just got my new parts for my pc and finished putting it together.
But i cant get it to start up.
It keeps booting up for 5 seconds then stopping then booting up fot 5 seconds then stopping, it dose this over and over agian.
I have tried everything i know and it is doing my head in now lol
Here is what i got:
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 cpu
Western Digital Raptor 74GB h/d
Seasonic S12 600W P/s
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 ZX PC2-6400 Ram
gt 7900 G/c
Anyone have any ideas

What do you mean exactly when you say it starts for 5 seconds? You mean it turns itself off afer 5 seconds then restarts itself? Uhh, perhaps its hardware, so try and replace parts with different parts if you get me, try the hard drive and perhaps a different motherboard with your new parts occupying whatever possible, try and borrow one off a friend or something

My hunch would be the processor is not sitting straight. Try taking the heatsink and fan off and re seat it and put it back on.

I had a similar problem and thats what cured it.

Some Mobo hava audio diagnostics. plug speakers into the MOBOs audio outputs listen for beeps and check the mobo manual. that might work. but...

heres a couple of things off the top of my head. 1st your RAM retails with many different timings on NEWEGG.com. make sure your RAM timings match (in BIOS) with the retail box timings the ram came in, from what i can tell you have the right ram. 2nd. Sometimes very new processors are not recognized by BIOS, this board is extremely new so it should but on the other hand may only have a BETA BIOS, check the mobo's website for updateing/flashing BIOS. ONly flash BIOS if you know thats the problem. IF a CPU fan is not properly plugged in, as a safety the computer may shut down. 3rd. Read the boot menu and check for Failures or cannot finds. Make sure your CD-rom drives, hard drives, and RAM are properly installed and A windows disk is in the CD-rom drive. Another thing may be your boot priority in BIOS, that is pretty unlikely though. 4th, check all power cable connections. 5th. You could have bad RAM, only way to tell is to have it checked by a professional computer repair store, thats unlikely though.

A good way to learn about your build is look up the parts on NEWEGG.com and read the parts' reviews. ive fixed alot of problems from someone else's complaints on that site. You may find someone with one of the same parts you have having the SAME problem.

Thanks for the advice.
But i still cant get it to go.
I have taken the cpu out and reinstalled it.
I have the windows disk in the dvd drive.
I cant do anything to the bios because the computer does not start up long enought to get into bios.
Think i will give up on it for a while (head is pounding)

I think i now know what the prob is the mobo does not support the ram.
Even tho its ddr2 and the mobo should support it.
Having done a bit of research it turns out that all of these Gigabyte boards have a stock VDIMM voltage of 1.8v and most people (like myself) are buying PC6400 ram (800mhz) to run with it. Whether running the F1 or the F2 bios the stock voltage is set to 1.8v and most PC6400 ram runs higher than 1.8v
If you're gonna buy one of these boards, don't fall into the same trap as me and look around for something like the Geil PC6400 which runs @ 1.9-2.2v and should be fine.
Its damn annoying tho

If you get anything on the monitor at all before it shuts off you ought to get an error code, which you can look up in the motherboard manual.

If you don't get anything on the monitor it usually means you have some problem with your video card.

Thanks for all the replays.
I have windows xp running on it now with a cheap stick of ddr2 ram.
I have sent my G.Skill 2GB DDR2 ZX PC2-6400 Ram Back.
I will be getting 2GB of Geil PC6400 when the refund comes though.
I did try and change the VDIMM in the BIOS and i did get it up and running, but it was very unstable.
I have done alot of research into this problem and there is alot of people having this problem with this mobo.
Hopefully when i get the new ram it will all work great.
I will let you know.
