I'd like to think that the world is more flexible than that and will learn to adapt to more complicated air travel. I'd think that the tourism industry is SO big that it would be forced to find a way to keep it running at any cost.mcminty wrote:

Looking at the recent events in a global perspective. If the new security measures continue then most duty free shops will end up closing. As a result the Airports will increase fees to the airlines and the customer. The airlines will pass the fees onto the customers, thus hitting them with a double price increase.
As well as those measures, rising fuel costs will mean increased fuel levy's for customers, again increasing the prices.
If these increases reach a certain point, fewer people will choose to travel.
Once there are fewer people traveling, then the rest of the tourism industry will begin to suffer. Tour operators, street vendors and merchants, hotels and restaurants will feel the sting. In order to cut costs, they will be forced to either raise prices or lay off staff. They will lay off staff.
Now there will be a situation in some developing countries of massive unemployment. This will lead to higher social tension and devision between the rich and poor. Crime will increase as the countries economy grinds to a halt.
But lets hope it doesn't come to that...

I mean, obviously the sports drink would clear security without a hitch, and I don't think it has too many explosive properties, but this so called "gel-like substance" HAS to have some kick to it in order to be able to cause some real damage to a plane. Given this fact, I feel rather uneasy thinking that airport security wouldn't be able to detect this substance as a possible bomb agent before finding out about this plot. Did terrorists really find a way to make a completelly concealable bomb? Don't you think we would've known this method by now? Is this "gel" (I really wish they were more specific) really that concealable and inert, and somehow magically becomes deadly when mixed with other agents? Or better yet, what the hell are the brits putting into their sports drinks???
Something doesn't add up for me. I don't doubt that there are terrorists plots here and there, but I think this one is being exaggerated and is being used for political purposes.

I've read that the "magic" ingredient in mentos (called Gum Arabic) which causes the soda to decarbonate is made by some people linked by Osama Bin Laden (Wikipedia it)... hmm, makes you wonder.

Someone mentioned that getting people scared was/is a big tool for government, I agree on that and still think that unless they stop giving excuses as to who the suspects were/are and giving some evidence on motives there is no unfolded case, My opinion might sound like conspiracy based one but I also believe that election year is coming and general idea is to keep people scared because human mentality will do anything under depression.I remember on spetember 11th everyone around me was scared/depressed and pointed towards towel heads (sorry for racist remark) and ofcourse if media says it's them it really is them because not everyone is like mr. Chomsky or a person of that caliber that can actually understand inner workings of governments by looking at patterns within history. I assure you we do not know 50% of what the governments of this world do behind the courtain however it all leads to "their best intrest" because it is in our human nature to stay on top and be the alpha male you can basically apply this logic to many things including politics. Altruism is the thing of past with governments that we have now days, just my personal opinion.

It's actually quite ridicoulus, if you are flying from here, you have to go through a so-so security check, no weapons etc. and a metal detector.
While if you are going to the US you have to go through a triple security check, and a lot of crap taking an awful long time.

However, diplomacy with Israel and the Arab leaders could help stabilize the region, and begin a true war on terrorism. But that will never happen as long as the most powerful nation in the world is totally one sided with Israel, and thus support the occupation and devastation Israel promotes in the middle east.
