was it a 9800pro? someone on the bf2rankedservers forums had a 9800 that was doing similar stuff...

Your graphic card is either completely fucked, or overheating.

Yeah, it's a 9800 PRO, and yeah, I figured it was overheating.

Yeah, it is.

Goddamn I wish I wasn't so fucking poor I can't afford a new system.

And mine is soooo much worse than his.

Well there's a whole host of problems you could have here. First and foremost, overheating. You should verify the fan on the card is functioning. Remove the cover and see if you can see the bottom of the card. Get a flashlight, that helps, and you may have to tip the PC over so you can get the right angle. While your in there, make sure all the case fans are working. The video card's fan works like the CPU's, it draws air from the case and blows it over the GPU. If the ambient temp is high, you'll be cooling something hot with hot air. So make sure case fans are working, and there is not dust blocking vents, etc etc (yeah the obvious). If everything there is working then you can scratch that off the list.

The next likely thing is the card is just going kaput, see if you can RMA it to ATI and get a new card (hopefully its still under warranty). But before you get a new card, eliminate the other things.

You could have a problem with EMI, has the PC's physical area around it changed? Have you moved any equipment closer to it? Have you installed any new large applicances elsewhere in your house/apartment? Your power supply could be on the fritz, if it isn't outputting proper voltages or ones that fluctuate all over the place could be the problem. If you can try borrowing a power supply from a friend and swap it out and see if the problem arises. Motherboard could be the problem...

Actually the best thing to do is see if you can install the card in another computer and see if you get the problem. if you get the problem, then it's probably the card.

First of all, my case isn't like... good. It's got one intake fan, and one exhaust fan, which don't seem to be enough, cause when I touch my hard drive it's pretty hot. I'm pretty sure that the fan on the card itself is functioning as it should, but I don't feel like ripping apart my PC at the moment, maybe tomorrow.

I bought this card off of newegg.com, and I have no idea how to look up warrenty info on it or whatever, again don't feel like it now, maybe tomorrow.

I did recently buy a new computer desk, but this was happening before then. In fact, this seemed to start after I reformatted this particular PC for the first time. Before that it was brand new, fresh install. Other than that the surroundings have not changed. I also just reformatted again yesterday.

Testing it with another computer... not an option. I don't have another computer that supports AGP, and I don't know anyone that does. I live in the South remember?

i suggest to get some more cooling for ur pc cause oits also o that expensive also beacause a hot HD isnt really good and it could die 2 someday.
i had some serious heating probs, i live under the roof and in the summer iget 40 degree constantly, several HD died on me in that year before i maxed out my cooling.

now i got 7 case fans and a controllable CPU fan. ok i bought a quite expensive tower but there are some affordable ones that also have some decent cooling. on tomshardwareguide.com is a nice test about cases.
or just screw a fan to every opening ur tower has and try to sort the cables so the airfow is at optimum.

Well in my opinion is two case fans (intake/exhaust) is fine (that is what I have) (my hard drives are directly in front of the intake fan, so they stay plenty cool) unless you have a super fast system with everything overclocked or your room gets really hot. Darn, testing the card in another computer is a sure fire way to test it. Are there any computer repair shops around? they might be able to test it for you

Well I've just returned my 9800 PRO via newegg RMA, so I should get a replacement in a week or two. I'm now running off my old 9200SE so we'll see what happens in game with this...

Okay, so... does anyone know how to make a 9200SE work for BF2? I can't even get past the intro movies when I start up my game.

Yeah I know it's not on the list, but I have heard of people with the same card being able to play.

Well try turning the AGP down to 4x. How much memory does it have? I think you need 128mb.

It's a PCI...

But it does have 128 MB.

there was a 'hack' that would let you use older cards, but it looked like complete ass. You'll probably just have to wait.

No no, I mean it was really, really bad. It ran, but you would reduce your K:D and SPM to about .0001 if you played.

Oh, well I couldn't take it anymore and reinstalled my 9800 PRO. It works for a little bit so at least I can play. But tomorrow I have to send it off

Dude, that's not your graphics card.  That's the new patch!  You must have been lucky enough to get it before everyone else!  You lucky son of a gun!

Note: I'm joking...  Not really the new patch.  Joke was that the patch will screw everything up.  Ha ha...  Get it?  ... Nevermind...

Mine did something similar, though it was only the minimap and HUD that looked like that
