The Salt Valley has a large fault along the Wasatch front, and the rest of the valley is littered with smaller ones.  because we have mountain ranges on both sides of the valley, and the valley is also what used to be covered by lake Boneville, the ground is heavy in sediment content.  Bottom line is that if the Wasatch fault cuts loose, the shock waves will just bounce back and forth between the mountain ranges; sort of like shaking a bowl of jello.  The liquification will sink most of the Salt Lake Valley.

I don't think New Jersey has earthquakes, but if we do New York City is going to fall into the ocean.

Grab a large amount of high powered explosive and an excavator. In about a month of digging you should be able to cause a minor one.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

There is an easier way, because they found out the hard way.  Just pump water into the fault.

Earthquake! Oh yea, with Charlton Heston, presented in Sensurround! Saw it in the 70s.
