difference between speeds? like PC2 6400, PC2 5400, PC2 4200? is there any NOTICABLE difference? they pretty much all run at 4-4-4-12 (though it does decreast when you get into lower speeds). Is it that they run at lower and lower mhz? and if so will that change anything??
DDR2 has more songs and remixes
and yes, there is a difference between all levels

i'm guessing higher the better? but is it noticable with a dual core amd x2 4600+ ?
most likely, yesCommieChipmunk wrote:

I just got DDR2 800. Yes. There is a very big difference.
well my MB will only let me get up to 800 mhz so ddr2 6400 right?
and would a pc2 4200 with cas timings 3-3-3-8 be better then a pc2 6400 with 4-4-4-12?

i used to pwn noobs with my PC2300.. i was liek 0/\/\G |\|00|35 G0T |\|0T|-|1NG 0|\| /\/\3!
lol
DDR2 isn't as good as the current DDR because of the latencies
Pfttt Intel just recently topped AMD with it's latest CPU but the price is outrageous. So I just assume that he has an AMD cpu.
250 bucks for an FX-60's asskicker? sounds reasonable to me :>
$300 Conroe will spank any AMD proc on the market. How is this outrageous?RichyCizzo wrote:

Is the Core 2 Extreme really that cheap? I didn't see any articles with the prices. If it is 300$ than hot damn that is cheap for such a high end CPU.
don't start with that "word" toasty bitch shitcyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

Dunno why you've chosen the most expensive of the Core 2 Duo CPUs, but for example there is the E6300 - you can clock it easily to 2,8 GHz and therefore have an greater performance then AMDs FX-62 and Intel's Core 2 Duo Extreme. And all for the cost of 170-180$.RichyCizzo wrote:

I don't want to get into what you can do with the Extreme Edition and it's unlocked multipliers.
Problem with E6300 and E6400 is that they are lacking 2MB of memory from the other models. E6600 is the lowest conroe model to have 4MB.
here is the link to the current pricing for AMD vs. Intel. (NOTE: this chart was made right before the AMD price cut so the AMD chips with an * may vary slightly from the current price)

EDIT: Here is a very informative buying guide for choosing a compatible Conroe setup. It's 19 pages though, skip to the last page for a nice summary if you don't want to read the whole article.

And here is a guide to the fastest DDR2 currently avavilabe from OCZ and Coarsair (again, you can skip to page 9 for a summary).
