Your childish reality fails.

The line is drawn at intentionally targetting civilians as a larger proportion to military targets.
More nonsensical comments. It doensn't matter who you supposedly target, it's the results that matter.

The evil Hezbollah have killed what, 60 people all together, most of them military. Israel has killed close to 1000 now with what around 900 being civilians? Rocket strikes continue so yeah, they don't seem to be doing shit to Hezbollah.

Israel should have gone in with ground troops from day 1 but they don't give 2 fucks about civilian casualities.

simply becasue you disagree with a comment doesn't make it nonsensical, it makes it contrary to your belief.

What people are saying is:  Israel should choose to let its own soldiers die rather than kill the Lebanese who:

1.  Have Hezbollah as part of their government
2.  Have Hezbollah as de facto government in the South
3.  Have allowed Hezbollah to lob rockets at Israel for years and, now, kidnap Israelis off their own territory

That makes no sense to me.

1.  It's none of their business who is in their government.  It is theirs to construct.
2.  Hezbollah is not the defacto government, try again.
3.  Their territory?  They stole it, and Hezbollah only kidnapped to get their prisoners back those prisoners that Israel promised to release ALMOST 3 DECADES AGO

Man are you blind...

How does the kidnapping of 2 soldiers justify killing 1000 civilians (1/2 of them children), destroying the Southern part of lebanon (whole towns and villages are now wiped out) and stopping aid to refugees?

Israel is what's wrong with the middle-east.  It always has been and always will.  As a Christian I will say this: it doesn't matter if they are the only Christian state there, they don't belong.  What they have they claimed by murder, theft, and displacement of the indigenous people.  That makes it a CRIMINAL STATE.  There are so many resolutions against Israel having to do with them ILLEGALLY taking land, murdering people, etc...  Israel has ignored every one except those that benefit them, they are so quick to quote UN resolution 1559:

http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2004/sc8181.doc.htm

And they only quote the part that calls for the disbanding of their military.  How advantageous to Israel that is, make sure they are they only one that has a military so they can continue their Zionist agenda.  I call BS on that one...

Why hasn't Israel complied with these resolutions:

* Resolution 106: " . . . 'condemns' Israel for Gaza raid".
* Resolution 111: " . . . 'condemns' Israel for raid on Syria that killed fifty-six people".

HMMMM?????????

IMO, Israel in the middle-east=Nazi Germany in Europe.  They are both expansionist's who achieve their means by stealing land and murdering people.  They ignore the UN except when it suits them (resolution in their favor).  They force the indigenous people to live in squalor, forcing them to live in landfills without running water, electricity, medicine, food.  Why you might ask?

Because Israel stole their water, land, and means to survive.  They enforce that with their military.  Did you know that when a Palestinian builds a home Israel calls in the military and bulldozers to destroy it, most of the time with the people inside?  Did you know they routinely destroy the infrastructure of those neighboring it to try and push them out?

How can you be on here and justify what Israel does?  They are responsible for more mass genocide in the middle-east than anyone else...

That makes no sense to me.
1.  Is it only democracy if we approve of who they vote for, as well?  Also, Hezbollah only currently hold 11% of the seats in the Lebanese parliament.  Of course, they'll probably do better in the next round of elections, now that Israel has helped them look like heroes.
2.  Again, an unfortunate "side effect" of democracy.  Maybe they wouldn't be so popular if Israel hadn't occupied that area for nearly 20 years, then left behind >100,000 landmines when they pulled out, refusing to hand over maps of the mines' locations.
3.  Let's do some roleplaying here, shall we?  Me and my armed terrorist friends show up at your house with a rocket launcher.  Do you (a) wag your finger at me and die?  Or (b) keep your mouth shut and live?  Finally, how do you define "their own territory"?  The Israeli soldiers were captured in Southern Lebanon.

There are 1.4 billion Muslims on the planet.  Unless our goal is to basically wipe them out, we better start looking at winning some hearts and minds.  Always siding with Israel, even as they massacre hundreds, or thousands, of civilians is not going to do it.

Thank God none of you are or ever will be world leaders. Civilian deaths are part of any war. I bet you that you would've argued against the US's involement in WW2 had we killed a few civilians in Nazi Germany. Isreal has been attacked and threatened throughout the decades and they are responding like they should...relentlessly. They are surrounded by countries that harbor terrorists that regularly attack Isreal, and there are even countries such as Iran proclaiming the annihilation of Isreal. They are responding the way the US should've responded after 9/11.
There are some fundamental differences between world war 2 and whats going on right now. World war 2 was a fight between established governments, using weapons that were relatively new and imprecise. The civilians in question fully supported (for the most part) the governments that were in conflict. Major military facilities (factories, depots, etc.)  were interspersed with civilian cities, and it's hard to not kill civilians when you're using unguided weapons dropped from 30000 feet. The modern Israeli military, on the other hand, is on of the best trained and equipped in the world. I've said it before, I find it hard to believe that they're doing their best to minimize collateral damage.

This conflict is not between two governments, it's between one government and a group of terrorists hiding inside the native population. If it was the government of Lebanon chucking rockets into Israel and abducting their soldiers, it might be a different story. But it's not, it's a minority of the population acting independently, and the Lebanese people as a whole should not be made to suffer for it.

Maybe Israel's strategy will work, I don't know. However, I find it more likely that Israel is just throwing gasoline on a fire.

HM1{N}, Isreal is not systematically exterminating an entire race (a key attribute of Nazi Germany). They are retaliating against terrorist attacks and kidnappings initiated by Hezbollah. This is how terror needs to be fought. We don't need hippies ignoring the reality of the situation just because there are civilian casualties. Isreal is making the message clear that if your nation harbors terrorists, especially those stupid enough to attack the most militarized nation in the world, this is how it will and needs to be dealt with.

The point I was trying to make is that many in this thread are simply against any military conflict whatsoever just because of the unavoidable reality of civilian casualties. I'm not directly comparing the two conflicts themselves.

Personally, I believe that Isreal should not stop their invasion until Hezbollah is 100% neutralized. Lebanon has the choice of doing it themselves, or having Isreal potentially destroy their entire infrastructure in doing so. Either is acceptable.

Because Israel doesn't give a flying fuck. They realize the U.N. is gay.
Exactly, they don't give a fuck...unless it benefits them.  That's why all their representative on T.V. quote Res. 1559 all the time now, it benefits them.  They absolutely refuse to abide by any resolution that does not further their Zionist agenda

You know, the Jews weren't the only ones killed in WWII.  The Germans murdered millions of people of other religions also, yet they are only famous for killing Jews.

They are not retaliating against terrorist attacks.  Israel started it's military campaign because 2 soldiers were kidnapped.  It wasn't until after that that Hezbollah started lobbing rockets in response to the Israeli military attacking Lebanon.

I am not a hippie, and YOU are the one ignoring the reality of the situation: Israel is systematically killing civilians, mostly children, as they destroy WHOLE TOWNS/CITIES in Lebanon.  There is nothing left there, it is genocide plain and simple.

The fact of the matter is that Israel still has Lebanese prisoners in their jails that they were supposed to release almost 3 decades ago.  That's OK though, right?  They are Israel so they can do whatever they want.

If you really believe that this is the way kidnapping needs to be dealt with, then I suggest you move to Israel, you obviously don't have the right mentality to live anywhere else.

I have a question. Everyone keeps talking about Lebanese civilian casualties, and how the Israeli Army is targeting civilians with arty and air strikes rather than using ground troops in conventional style warfare, but has anyone actually seen a Hezbollah Military uniform???? I've searched for some time, and I just cant seem to find a picture of one. So I am curious how the Israeli Army is supposed to differentiate between the civilians and Hezbollah when the are apparently dressed the same and the Hezbollah are using civilian areas as bases of operations????

Since you obviously have an extremely skewed perception of the situation, allow me to word this as eloquently as possible. Isreal is retaliating against terrorism. Lebanon harbors terrorists that attack Isreal. The alternative would be to sit back and do nothing, while their country gets routinely attacked by missiles and suicide bombers, and their citizens kidnapped. The entire region has been hostile towards Isreal throughout history, and just recently the president of Iran has proclaimed its annihilation.

Quoted for more irony. Isreal is fighting an enemy that hides behind its own civilians. They launch rockets from civilian neighborhoods, that is why civilian towns are being destroyed. One could attribute the majority of civilian casualties in this conflict to the cowardice of Hezbollah. Isreal is not directly targeting nor eterminating the civilian population.

Israel is a terrorist state that uses it's military on a daily basis to murder innocent civilians, always with some BS excuse for a reason.

If 2 of our soldiers get kidnapped, do we go and wipe out innocent civilians like Israel?  NO
Does any other state or country in this world do that?  NO

Israel gets routinely attacked because THEY STOLE THE LAND.  Plain and simple.  If there was no Israel, there would be no problem.  If you steal my land and murder my family, I'm going to be hostile to you also and yes, I'm going to kill you.

How's that for eloquent?

And you don't think arabs killed/attacked jews before the creation of Israel? It's not because they stole their land. Normal people would be able to work together, and understand the circumstances of why the jews had to go there after all the predjudice and pretty much genocide of them in WW2. No. They can't. Because they're jewish (or even if they were christian, they wouldn't care) the arabs hate them.

And about the whole killing civilians part:

One difference.

Israel ISN'T trying to kill civilians, Hezbollah is.

Plus, what war have you EVER seen where civilians haven't been unintentionally killed?

They are hated because this has been the cycle for Millenium.  I'm not giving another history lesson here, but it started in the 3rd Millenium BC when the Jews FIRST emmigrated to that land, and systematically murdered the people who lived there, stealing their land in the process.

The Jews were the aggressors FIRST.  That's why they are hated so much.  This cycle of theirs continues to this day.  WWII was bad, but you know what?  That's a bullshit trump card to use for 60+ years.  Why should we give a shit now when Israel is just as bad now as Germany was then?

And in answer to your point: Israel IS intentionally targetting civilians.  They do it all the time because they don't give a shit, they are killing muslims after all.

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340 … 20,00.html

That about sums it up, Israel doesn't give a shit about innocents.

So do your consider Hezbolloh going into Israel territory killing and kidnapping their soldiers to be a terrorist attack on Israel or a peace offer. Hezbollah started fireing their rockets before Israel bombed Southern Lebanon.
