Well my dad wants to play bf2 now on his comp but he only has 1 gig of ram, sooo im trying to look for that site that shows if the ram i wanna buy is compatible with my dads computer. Anyone know that site or know what kind of ram i could buy.
have you tried crucial.com or newegg.com?
You can play with 1 gig without problems on Mediums. Are you planning on running all highs? You do you know have a dell, right?

the processor doesnt really have anything to do with what type of RAM the motherboard uses.
i have the same one, and i wanna up grade too. Sorry tho dont know what kinda ram you need. could you tell me when you find out?

Yes I was going to use the processor socket to get a general type of RAM, I assumed that since they had a dell finding the specific motherboard specs might be a problem.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Well, if you use a program such as PC Wizard or CPU-Z, it will tell you what RAM you need, or what ram the board is running anyway. It gives you all the motherboard info etc.

I don't have time to do much research today, but the Dell Dimension 8400 is packaged with DDR2/533 memory. It could be that the chipset allows for faster DDR2, but know that Dell is notorious for nerfing its hardware's normal capabilities to encourage consumer upgrades. For example, the amount of sawn-off AGP slots I've seen in my time are mind-boggling.

yea i used cpuz, my dads dell shipped with 400 DDR2 pc3200 ram. To the guy who wanted to know which ram he could use too, try cpuz to see if yours is 533 or 400{BMF}*Frank_The_Tank wrote:

I just bought a Dell with 1G DDr ram, I was thinking of buying more and had the same questions as you, which kind?
I went to Dell.com and searched. I came across this link, http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/memc … &cs=19 . If your CPU is fairly new I'd bet you have a service tag # on the back of yours that will tell you exactly what you can buy for it. Hope it helps.
