Interesting article about both Low End Core 2 CPUs and the E6400 outperforming the FX62 if overclocked.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh … 02&p=1

Would a Pentium D be okay?
Pentium D 805 is okay, because it got huge overclocking abilities.

Honestly i would rather go with one of the two Low End Core 2 Duo CPUs.

Cheers for that link fierce, definatly making me re think my Conroe plans. That could save me a lot of money, for practically the same performance. However, do you think you need to be a pretty damn good OCer to get them that high, or can anyone with a vague knowledge of OCing get them near that high?

its all on the motherboard for the conroes, its how high your mobo can push the FSB, not the cpu. the CPU can go to 4GHZ on the tuniq tower 120

With nowadays Motherboards it's nearly foolproof to make some basic overclocking. You first start to increase the FSB, as soon as the System becomes unstable you increase the VCore by small steps. Some motherboards even provide an automatic function for this.

I'm glad to read this - at least we don't need to worry about AMDs future with customers like that. Even if their products are inferior there are still buyers.

Edit: Grammar

its a game of tug-of-war all the time, the balance shifts from Intel to AMD and so on everytime a new chip comes to the market

Yeah, I know the speeds, but I meant, you mean you can OC both of those to 4 Ghz with a Tuniq Tower?

Or did you can OC the E6600/E6700 with a Tuniq tower to 4Ghz? Cause so far, I think I've only seen reports of the E6600/E6700 at 4Ghz.

only the E6600/E6700 can oc to 4ghz, its not that the cpu would get too hot, its the motherboard, since conroes overclocking capability completely depends on the motherboard for now

heard it comes out sumwhere in august, not much of an overclocker a guy at VR zone had a test version, and the FSB only reached 320mhz stable... that was really dissapointing

again, i say go for the E6600..even if you have to wait another month for the mula, cause that thing has HUGE overclocking potential, especialy with the 4m cache...thats the way to go...(and its not THAT much more either)

that thing can reach 4GHZ if you got a good mobo a really GOOD mobo in fact, i would be expecting ppl breaking the 3.4ghz barrier
