Don't know about starlight, R.E.M.E. is the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers I do believe.

I don't know about a direct translation, but starlight means first aid.

i think its medic when i die it says star light or maby its when iam injrd

I can't remember where I read this but starlight is a very archaic British radio code word for medic, maybe WW2 era.  Good luck with google.

R.E.M.E is as what everyone above have said,they are the electrical,engineer and mechanical arm of the army,doing all the repairs,recovery and maintainence of all vehicles and equipment.i know i was in it for 9yr as a vm.
   STARLIGHT,is also as stated the code for a medic,i believe it dirives from the use of a flashpen to check the pupils of the injured,(first thing a medic does to check the state of the wounded)"follow the light with your eyes".........star is also known today as stare,and ofcourse the flashpen is a light.

Starlight is an old code-word for medic, that was originally created by the British, and became a standard throughout the Commonwealth.  Don't think it ever became a familiar term with most people, however.  As mentioned above by others, it's still on the official listings for the Canadian and Australian militaries, and I'd presume that it's still an official term in the UK itself, but I have yet to see a reference to it or hear anyone confirm that. 

I think you'd need a British communications officer or someone to confirm it, but I'd guess that since Special Forces was done by Dice Canada, they used Canadian references and found it there.

I'm just glad they went with REME for mechanic rather than the other callsign of "Bluebell".  I think that was the name of the mechanic guy from the Village People...

Beside the nice accent (I like it!) those specials terms make the SAS sound much more interesting and special than the US troops (at least for me).

Does anybody know, if any of the other BF2/SF-armies use such special expressions ingame too?

We have all gathered that Starlight means medic.  What we are asking is where did it come from.  No-one I have spoken to has ever called a Medic that

maby its like a code name like in the us army sf there like 18 charlie (i think thats it)

I personally like the SAS Commander's call for Artillery... (forget exactly what it says)
