That's a really shit idea. What if you didn't know they were going to start a war when you voted for them? I'm sure most Americans who voted for Bush in '99/'00 whenever it was, didn't know he was going to invade Afghanistan or Iraq. And what about if you voted for the opposition, but lost? You'd still be forced to fight? Sounds wonderful...
Many Americans in WWII thought we were fighting just to protect British shipping, it turns out Their was a bigger picture.

You rarely get to fight when and where you want to. It is the nature of modern war fare that you can no longer stand outside your front door to defend your home. That ended Thousands of years ago.

It is also a fact that if you list in detail everything you know you will mediately lose the sources that acquired it.

This is very pertinent in time of war. Its time for everyone to act and think as if we are engaged in a struggle for existence. Our enemies have seized on this concept long ago.

How we are again in this stage of the argument is beyond me.

I'd joing and fight, if called.  However, I think I'd be rooted on disability grounds seeing as I've got arthritis in one ankle.  But still, if the UK introduced conscription again (last time was WWII, I think) then there must be some pretty serious shit going on in the world and our safety would be threatened.  In that case, I'd much rather be in the thick of the action than cowering on the sidelines.

If I was drafted I would follow orders throughout, though I would try to avoid a frontline role. If ordered there I would go, but wouldn't sign up for  one.
