You could also say by choosing not to have faith, that requires ignorance. Its all about how you look at it. I'm Christian, and the way I see it, I really don't care what others people faith is or lack of. It shouldn't matter, people should believe WHATEVER they want to and not to ever be negatively affected by that view. Some people at my college call me names and give me weird looks when I say I'm Christian, or Republican....seriously some of these people have got their heads up their asses, I respect Democrats and all others point of views unless they are either 1) straight up lying or 2) being completely rude and ignorant. I would expect the same of me. Sorry I threw in some politics because I know this is supposed to be about faith. But politics takes faith too. So if any a-holes from BCC are reading this, stop for a moment and think about how rude you're being.
Only people who say this are themselves mentally week because they fail to see the hyporicsy of this statement. You shouldn't care whether people have religion or not, and I do understand the point that some people are weak, and I have witnessed this by myself but do not blanket cover everyone with faith as being mentally week. Single out those individuals that are weak, not the group, because the group is strong. And try not to judge so much sheesh.TheCanadianTerrorist wrote:

In response to the thought of non-religious faith, by definition that is trust. You can disagree if you want, but thats how I see it. What do you all think. By having faith in something you are giving someone or something a chance. You are believing that someone will pull through for you or you can do thirty push ups. If you have faith your are being anything but ignorant as long as your not using blind faith (THATS DIFFERENT). Faith is trust, and trust in other people is good, however people can be deceived (ie con artists, criminals, liars, etc) but that is just part of the equation that cannot be removed, ever. It is human nature. So to have trust is not to be ignorant, to have faith is not to be ignorant, it is to understand your surroundings and trusting your best decision. It has everything to do with your values. If you believe in something you have faith, you have trust. If you voted for Bush you had faith and trust. If you voted for John Kerry, you had faith and trust. Is that ignorant? No. It is your values, and nothing else.

Albert, if more people were as relaxed and understanding as you, there'd be a lot less bullshit going on in the world.
Tell me about it, I wish people would just stop with personal attacks and all that bullshit and just *($#&*(@ talk. Its not surprising why nothing gets done in Congress because of all the bs, thats been around for years. But yeah thanks, I am pretty laid back, and if more people were, we'd all be happier. Maybe Hezbollah and Israel should read this.chittydog wrote:

So I killed these people? Thanks for topping the list of most ignorant things I have ever heard.T0rr3nt wrote:

But I will ask you this. In the US should white people still be blamed for slavery? I think not. Why? Because we didn't do it, others did not us.
I'll be back I need to go kill some "Non believers". What a dumb ass.
No it's not. I am not ignorant or mentally weak.TheCanadianTerrorist wrote:

So where is your point? Oh I see you like to stereotype people.
Are you guys saying that religion is a crutch, or are you saying that this thread is a repeat of that other thread?

Faith in what?
Ignorance of what?
I have faith that this topic is going nowhere, so I guess I'm ignorant.
How do you debate something when there's no topic?

1st mistake: Making a thread mentioning religion in the Debate forum.
2nd mistake: Calling all religious nuts on the forums as well as the people who merely practice a religion "ignorant".
3rd mistake: Only putting "Discuss" in the body without elaborating or providing a reason for this debate.
4th mistake: Making all of the above mistakes in one thread.
This thread can burn in the eternal fire of hell for being a worthless piece of shit. Further proof that great forum members fuck up sometimes too.

Ouch!~
If any of you morons have any questions, thoughts or ideals about religion, I am 100% sure they can be found, debated and answered in the 64 fucking pages long religion thread that was the flaming thread of Satan's asshole a few months ago.

when you say that religion has led some to be ignorant, i think thats funny cause, how many nuns and priest do you see being ignorant to other people?jonsimon wrote:
Then why don't you 1. Ignore it. or 2. Present an undefeatable argument in your favor.topthrill05 wrote:

Besides, this thread isn't necessarily against religion, only the original poster.
As for the topic, the truth is, religion has led some to be ignorant, which can logically present the question. "Does faith bring ignorance?" I've already answered.
i can see in some cases, where maybe a jehova witness or someone like that going door to door being pushy.(not that im saying they are cause ive never met one.)
But the question i ask you, isn't there people out there being ignorant cause they don't have faith, and don't have morals and live the way they want to cause when they die, its over.
Lack of faith requires ignorance.
How so?Alexanderthegrape wrote:

Although this is up for interpretation, I think religion or some form of it has helped humanity along the way. If anything you have to take the good with the bad. Religion has inspired many and has forced people to kill. But can we honestly say that without religion we would go farther? In fact can we even say that it is holding us back? Please provide me with something to back up your statements or this becomes a poll instead of a debate.
Now to the topic of the thread. False. I am religious and am not ignorant or mentally weak. For any of you to say that you are giving into stereotypes and your own ignorance (We all have some). So please someone tell me how I am Ignorant or mentally weak. If you can in a mature way you will get +1.
Alexanderthegrape, I am happy to be have a intelligent debate with you. You are very set in your beliefs. Although there is nothing wrong with that please give me a response with something to back it up.
I'm guilt of having accused religous people of ignorance, I'm sorry Cougar.
I have been told I'm ignorant and damned for believing that God is a Universal entity, not represented here on Earth in any believable form I've seen.
I was raised in a religous fundamentalist household. You wouldn't believe me if I told you have many siblings I have. I just could not accept religion.
I saw it as a path to power and money, power over children especially ( I'm hinting at why I'm bitter ) and an excuse for bigotry.
My frustration now comes from all the armed conflict being waged now in the name of God.
If anything, I'm envious of those with faith. I just don't have that gene.
I know that experience with death of a loved one can have a profound impact on ones belief.
topthrill05
Thanks.
I just think of all the powerhouses of love and creativity that are dead and gone, now, in our lifetimes because of religion.
Some of those people would have been the ones to make a breakthrough in medicine or culture, or science.
We should unite as humans and stop the murder that is happening in the nuances of opinion about God and faith.

How does faith in religion require ignorance? First of all I'd say religion is the expression of one's faith. I'd also say that spouting something off like that also requires a little bit of ignorance.buttered noodle wrote:
faith in religion requires ignorance, and the level of ignorance grows as one grows more dedicated to religion and keeps it up later in life, now i'm only assuming that this topic is meant to be faith as in accordance with religion. I dont know the quote word for word but i believe it was Karl Marx who said "religion is the opium of the masses", which i think is a very accurate statement and pertains to this topic assuming were focuing on religion.
I couldn't agree more, especially with #3. To the original poster, are you just looking to start a big argument so you can come back and point at a big flaming thread and say "look ma, I started that fight!"?Cougar wrote:

If you really thought this question was worthy of debate, I'd think you would weigh in with a nice, reasoned post.
debating religion or 'faith' is pointless
everyone has either their own religion or their own belief about religion
no online forum will ever change what they believe
so it will always turn into a giant spiral of death...

On your first point, I disagree. I think it has more to do with a culture of spoiled kids and bad parents. Where are the kids motivated to do anything if not by there own family? Well school and church (If they even go). But all these things combined with family make a motivated person. Of course there are exceptions, but not many.Alexanderthegrape wrote:

On your second point, I agree. But I ask this, is it about religion or differences in beliefs? Re-read that a few times to get the point. I think too many people use religion as a scapegoat for the worlds problems.
The real question is..... If religion wasn't here what would it be like. I think it would be different but I firmly believe that there would be something else in it's place. Probably just over land.
