Well add in the fact the first shipments are going to system builders like Dell and gateway, HP and the rest of the "high volume" gang.....the retail channels will get some but not many.... If you can wait for conroe it will be worth your while
Get 2 gigs of RAM and a BFG Tech videocard.
"Gainword Bliss" what the fuck?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm simply stating a few facts.JaM3z wrote:
I think your on crack, a much faster AM2 processor, ALOT faster RAM, also can upgrade in the future as its on the AM2, better motherboard, better HDD.
Why you would want a optron CPU i dont know:
Its a server based chip
You cant overclock them to FX-60 ratings (the ones you could where all sold)
There not dual core (so no FX-60 ratings)
Dell use them.
And to your quote
"Your friend is on crack thinking that his machine will own the first one.
All it has over the other is a bit faster of a CPU with AM2's ddr2 speed ram. Sure it will be faster, but not that much."
Well it obvioulsy would own the other machine, it has a faster CPU, DDR2 RAM, room to upgrade, can add another graphics card in it later.
Jesus ive been building machines for 6 years and the second one would deffinatly own the first one.
first: there's not a lot of difference between a 3800 and a 4200. You should also keep in mind that the 3800 is a good overclocker. I don't know about the 4200.
second:DFI motherboards are very good, I'd recommend the ultra D as I'm not sure what a "UT" is. I've never liked Abit motherboards and until they become #1 I don't think I'll recommend them to anyone. Asus used to be the cream of the crop, but DFI has taken over. I like the ECS boards myself because they're cheap and do their job.
third: Last I read DDR2 ram has not proven to give anything beyond a 5% performance gain over DDR, it's just the way everything is moving.
fourth and fore most...
Opterons while (yes) designed for servers did not have some nutty coding in them to make them less than an equal a64 in any way. Quite the opposite acually. They run cooler, use less power and are able to overclock much better. To think that all the "good" opterons are sold already is nutty. These later ones are actually as good as some of the best ever.
As someone already stated the 165, 170 and others in this line are all DUAL core. I think the 165 is the super chip in the line since it overclocks up to the same level as any above it, many running between 2.6 and 3Ghz with them.
As for the experience pee party, I've honesly been building computers since about 1994. You need to be less free with the "X will own Y" unless you're talking about a PIII against an A64.
I'd still say the Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe is the best intel SLI board on the market.
Ok guys thanks for all your help, I will probally get this system at the end of the summer, so I will see if the new processors are still avaible then, thanks again!
Aw shit! By the end of summer none of that shit will count any more. I can't believe you wasted our fucking time like this. Why the hell are you asking for advice when you are NOT building a rig?elmo1337 wrote:
