I'm a crap shot. And I know it. I can't snipe worth a damn. So I counter-snipe. Because snipers generally have their eyes in their scope and are usually sitting still enough that I can hit them. In terms of teamwork I see my job as allowing the squaddies to keep their eyes on the ground without having to worry as much about whats up above.
Places I look for snipers:
Sharqi:
TV Station, Tall Waterfront Building at Hotel, the Crane (all of it), both Hills and Watertower near City Entrance, the rows of buildings between TV Station and Construction site. I think the hardest place to pick-up snipers is IN the construction site; plenty of shadows, they can hide within the structure and not poke their gun barrels out. Two places I once used to good effect - a lean-to shed roof on the west end of the construction site - had to parachute onto it and it was only 7 feet up, but it was so non-obvious I got a lot time in before someone found me. Very N00b because I could move around much. Another fun place that I used only once was the top of teh stairs leading to the terrace that houses the construction site; between the Site and the Hotel flag; near the base of the crane. I set-up a claymore down stairs and one around the corner in front of me. I had a great view into the construction site, got plenty of guys fixated on the crane and also had a good view of guys trying to come from Surveillance Post into Construction site. Also got 3 claymore kills and had both a medic and a support dude find me and keep coming back to keep me going.
Karkand:
The roof of the building at The Square is very obvious. I won't even mention the hills, because the USMC guys have little choice and have to work with what they have. The cement factory is a given, I don't even shoot, I just lob a grenade up there. Under the train. On top of the train. On top of suburbs. The best places to snipe in Karkand (IMHO) are street corners and doorways.
Wake:
Too fluid - I hardly ever have to go CounterSniper here. Places I check are usually sandbagged forts, hills behind the airstrip, overgrown plane wrecks, buildings with steps.
Mashtuur:
Hills behind the hotel, the water tower, the tall building, the tall bridge, blah blah. Again, better off with street corners in this map and keep moving. Theres a particular corner between Hotel and Mosque that looks straight down the flag, from a fair distance. That's useful. Again its a fluid map.
Kubra Dam:
Snipers Heaven. Don't bother with the cranes, if you can't find anywhere better don't be a sniper on this map. One of the best uses for snipers on this map (IMHO) is to call in arty and airstrikes. No further comment.
Zatar:
The oil towers are all too obvious. The gillie suits show-up against the sandstone hills easily too.
Oman:
The tall Hotel building and the crane are where I check first. then the hill over the River flag. And the warehouse roof. The hills around the Hotel and behind the airstrip. The two best places I found here are (for countersniping) the top floor of the construction site building (NOT the roof). You can set a claymore for defence on the stairs, then with a little moving around you can cover the river forts, warehouse, crane, and crane flag. If you get someone capping the flag from within that dumpster you can lob a grenade in, and you can cover the other building on the other side of the flag, and pop anyone that tries to steal the APC. The most fun place I found for regular sniping was on the railway tracks between Hotel and the nearest beach fort. On one sode of teh tracks are three large bushes. You blend in really well and have a good view of the beach fort. It was so good I had FAVs and infantry pass me and not notice. IMHO the best places for snipers on this map is behind the walls of the beach forts, being defensive and spotting enemy movements for the team; lets you stay mobile.
I think I've babbled long enough, I doubt anyone is reading.
Last one worth mentioning though...
Mass Destruction. The Railyards Flag. Theres a Stinger Site up on a terrace, at the bend in the road. I find it good because you can defend the flag from there, get guys coming from the substation island, spot enemy armour and leap onto the stinger if the gunship comes close. Heh - spot the team player.
