I'll just but down my spec in case it will help with anyone work out the problem:

Abit AV8
AMD 64 3500+
2x512MB Samsung PC3200 RAM
Radeon X1600pro 512MB

---------------------------------------------------------

I recently bought another 2 512MB memory sticks, exactly the same as the ones which came originally in my computer (Samsung PC3200).

I had problems with it at the start (blue screen crashes, errors before windows loaded). I reformatted and tried again. It worked for around 2hours then the same blue screen crash. I gave up.

Ive randomly tried it again this morning after getting annoyed at low FPS last night and it has been working fine.

My problem is that when i tried to join certain servers (the TV2 ones) i get the message about modified bf2 content and that i must revert it back to normal. I played on exactly the same server yesterday without the other RAM completely fine, without that message.

I have been playing on other servers ok without that message (and all running fine) but why does it come up on some servers?

(i have not modified any content i should add!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

~JameS~

edit: I can now hardly join any servers as nearly everyone gives that error message.

Also the game randomly crashes to the desktop just after it has finished loading with no error message.

This is an old BF2 problem, in what order did you install BF2 and its addons plus updates?

For example, did you install BF2, Special Forces and then the 1.3 update? (if so everything should be fine)

If however you installed BF2, 1.3 patch and then special forces you'll get the modified content error.

EDIT: The ctd is 1.3 being a bitch.

I installed bf2 first, then 1.22 (full) then the 1.3 (inc.)  just because they were the ones saved on my PC. I've not installed special forces.

Ive never installed special forces on this computer.

What do you suggest i do?

Also bf2 just randomly crashes whilst loading but i guess thats more to do with the RAM (as in tech) and not to do with software?

The BF2 crashing is the 1.3 patch hard at work.

Have you tried uninstalling BF2, ensuring its directory in "My Documents" and wherever you installed it to have been totally deleted?

Also, you may as well download the 1.3 full update rather than go 1.22 -> 1.3.

I bought a few days ago additional 1 Gb of RAM too(3 Gb total now). And since i installed it game loads super fast between the map changes. BUT... it gives me the same modified content shit error when i press join button. And yes, i reinstalled bf completly yesterday(BF>SF>1.3>EF>1.3 again). Still having that freaking error almost everytime map changes.

You don't need to install 1.3 after installing Euroforce or Armoured Fury, they're simply map addons and not mods like Special Forces.

I think i will wait till 1.4 then try a reinstall.

I guess thats the crashing sorted if its just the patch, even though it didnt crash as much without the other RAM in.

But the modified content :S   thats weird. EvilMonkeySlayer, thanks for your help, and taking into account what you said i seem to have done it in the right order but still have the problem, i can't work out the connection between the RAM and the error, baring in mind the RAM doesnt permanantly store any data.

As i said i will wait till 1.4, try again then see what happens.

If anyone else has any other ideas please tell me!

Is the RAM the exact same make and model?

If not mixing RAM is never advisable.

Yup, as i said in my first post it's exactly the same (Samsung PC3200)  ive checking by using CPU-Z and they all show up exactly the same type...

Mmmm, yeh, I tried that too. From what i remember (I've taken it out now - got annoyed!) the timings were the same however the frequency of my new RAM went up to i think 266MHz apposed to 200MHz that my original RAM does.
Doesn't RAM automatically adjust back to a common frequency (i forgot the terminology)?

It must be compatible with abit as it is the same as the other.

My graphics card is fine, it causes no problems (it came with an ATI card and the one i have upgraded to X1600 is ATI too so thats all ok).

[thanks for everyones input by the way]

have u sorted out the ram timings? when you put 4 sticks in you have to put settings more lose and turn off things like T1 timing and put it to T2 (if that means anything at all to you) you may have to tweak the latency of the ram up a bit too, as 4 sticks means they will need to be loser timings than when you had 2.
say if you had 3 3 3 7 try 3 4 4 8 and see what happens

@ SuB

To be honest that means nothing, i have never touched the timings at all, i've just made sure the RAM is the same type etc.
What you said sounded usefull and that it would make a difference......where can i change them...bios?

yea go into the bios and look for memory timings cas latency tras etc, and put them up by 1, if it doesn't work just reset the cmos and default the bios,
if you don't feel confident enough don't do it, don't, you can screw things up, read your motherboard manual and find the cmos thing before you change anything just to be on the safe side

You need to still install the patch so it could patch the heli changes in those map and other stuff like that.

Just did a bot of Googling and here is what one guy found with a similar problem as yours....

A solution...

Hi guys!

I have had the same "MD5 error on certain files during install" problem as many of you. As a result of this I was unable to patch to version 1.01 and then 1.02.

I have solved this and (so far) have eradicated the "Unmodified content" problem which I was having. I am now able to join over 1000 ranked servers out of over 4000 total servers instead of 4 ranked out of 200-odd before.

My problem involved my 2x512Mb (1GB) matched pair RAM.

Here's what I did...

1. HAD PROBLEMS WITH INSTALL (MD5 errors)

2. Switched off PC and removed my second matched pair RAM module. (Now down to 512Mb from 1GB)

3. Rebooted and retried install of Battlefield 2. -Same errors reoccurred.

4. Switched off PC and swapped the RAM module I had left in for the one I had originally taken out. (now again at 512Mb RAM)

5. Rebooted and retried install of Battlefield 2. -This time no errors, installation completed succesfully.

6. Rebooted when prompted by Install Shield.

7. Patched to v1.01. -Successful, no errors.

8. Patched to v1.02. -Successful, no errors.

9. Switched off PC and refitted second matched pair RAM module. (Now back up to 1Gb RAM)

10. Rebooted and played successfully without previous "Unmodified content" errors. (So far!) and patched to version 1.1.2484.0.
Note that this post was last August but sounds similar.....

Nope, never had any problems.

I own both EF and AF, never installed 1.3 after them and they worked perfectly fine.

Thanks, this sounds usefull, so basicly i need to swap my RAM round, installing with my new sticks and adding the orginial 2 sticks after the install...?

In his case it was basically just a process of elimination to determine which of his ram sticks were causing the error.  I had a similar problem once with a ram stick giving me windows errors during install. I was finally able to install windows without errors by removing one of the sticks.  Afterwards I put the stick back in and had no further problems.

ok, after 3 days of hell i worked threw this homeriffic games issues.  This is what worked for 'ME' First, I have a pent D 920, Sata drives and a ton of ram.  I changed my secondary IDE, CD DRIVE, interface to PIO.  that made it take 6 months to load all 3 disks but got rid of the MD5 Check errors.  I think if you see ANY MD5 check errors you might as well start over.  I had like 5 copies of the game on my hd tring to piece-meal a 'whole' game together.  BUT, if the PIO transfer thing fixes THAT problem, look on EA Games 'Support' for it im not going threw the process, then download the 1.22 patch and then 1.22-1.3 patch.  the 1.3 full patch kept rudely 'patching failed' me.  once that happens, again start TOTALLY over.  Going with ther 1.22 first, it worked, no errors. then the bump to 1.3, great... no errors.  you can try anything but I'll say this.  I thought it was my DVD-CD drive, wrong.  I installed a PATA CD, no fix, a PATA HD, no fix, broke out my 1.7ghz SCSI computer, NO FIX, my laptop, NO FIX! its not the cd drives, i even upgraded the firmware on my DVD-CD, EA support says to. NO FIX. the only thing that worked was the PIO.  once you get the game installed remeber to reset it back to DMA, god help u install anything over 3 disks with it in PIO.  just remeber, ANY errors, uninstall and start over.  it just wont work.  but at least now i can play, although I think i need a vacation after the work EA games put me through.  Oh and for the sheer fact that they put out a piece of crap like this remeber to delete those EA.BIK and DICE.BIK files from ur 'movies' Dir,  gets rid of that little boy 'CHALLENGE EVERYTHING' crap.  I think they mean 'challenge everyone' to get to play our games...

ok guys, I found a problem... after days of problemless gaming i had ANOTHER problem.  it started off as content modified crap, but changed into CTD's.  The reason... a bad stick of ram.  If your having ANY problems with BF2, dl and run MEMTEST.  serouisly its stupidly easy and it found my problem.  d00d, i had a chip fall of the stick of ram once i pulled the heat spreader off.  I could not make this up.  the heat speader was holding it together! I hope this helps some poor sole, im off to frys, 1 gig ram isnt gonna do me!
