I bought a Plantronics 550 DSP headset w/ mic today.  It's a USB only headset and it doesn't work on BF2.  It works fine with all my other programs, but not BF2.  I contacted Plantronics and they said that all Battlefield games have problems recognizing USB mics and headsets.  The headset cost $120 and I bought it just to play BF2.  Anyone else have this problem or find a way to fix it?

Did you download the latest drivers?

I updated to the latest drivers before I tried to use it.  When they didn't work I even tried rolling them back to the old ones.  Still nothing.  The mic doesn't work and the headphones put out no sound in BF2.  They work great on TeamSpeak and every other program I have.

you need to make sure the usb mic is plugged in BEFORE you run BF2.exe otherwise it won't recognise it..

I had this problem too with a DSP 500.  The major problem is that BF2 seems to only like one sound card installed in a PC at a time.  The DSP (if yours is like mine) has a built in sound card.  I have a nice high end card that gets absolutely no use in my PC because of my love for BF2.

The quick (and ugly fix) is to simply go into computer mangement and disable your sound card, reboot, and then plug in your USB DSP.  (If you don't know how to do this let me know.)

After your headset is recognized as the only sound card in your PC, go into control panel and into sounds and audio devices and make sure on the Voice and Audio tabs that the plantronics is set as the default sound.

There are downsides like losing the ability to use your normal speakers, if you have them, but I'm too addicted to BF2 to care and besides my wife is much happier now that she doesn't hear all  the missle locks.

Good luck and let me know if you need more help.

P.S.

Make sure after you launch BF2 you make sure the Software is the choice under Render in sound options.

I kinda have a USB problem too, I have a logitech headset and BF2 recognizes it, but it won't let me boost the gain. Everyone can see me talking, but no one can hear me. TS works just fine though.

My problem is similar with this USB-mic problem. However my problem is not USB. I'm playing on a laptop (no flaming, its probably better then the average stationary ) and my mic (with a regular plug-entrance) wont work in bf2. It work just fine in every other program such as TeamSpeak etc. I have heard a rumour about bf2 not liking "onboard"-soundcards (since there isnt any expansion-places on a laptop). Could my problem be this in BF2 ? If so, any idea on how to solv it ? Im not the only one, 2 of my friends also play on high-end laptops and experiance the same problem.

Anyone ?
