dont know if im close, but i saw that bodies on this map wouldnt dissapear as fast, and could be causing crappy fps.

Just saw a large fight at the viewing deck and the 50 odd dead bodies and the 15 fps (from 102) i was thinking it maybe a reason.
i spawned away from the action and still the low fps, yet, when mec were driven off the boat, it went back up, small fights didnt give an issue.

Yeh I had that the other day on Iron Gator, bodies were taking forever to disappear.

It has to do with the rendering. The way SF renders Iron Gator is only the parts you visit are loaded, but since you see outside, you load the external polys and textures, and then there is the detailed, poly-intense interiors - too much residing in memory.

Iron Gator is the worst map ever made. If you get a heli you can whipe out everyone, APC's can spawn camp the dock thing and inside the carrir its to close and laggs like shit.

Iron Gator is awesome. The ship itself is almost one huge model. So the game renders all of it whether you see parts of it or not thats why it lags like that. Its all concentrated in one spot so inside sucks.

Yep, and plus its because you have 50+ people inside a static object, with static objects inside it.

I have my rendering detail down at medium so I don't see the lag as much. I know, that makes me t3H 14M3r.

Iron Gator is a love/hate map. The trouble is that if the SEAL team is just a little better, the MECSF team has no chance. It's a very precarious balance on that map. I like it because its *not* the typical terrain map.

The open ocean has no cover... if the APC is camping the amphibious dock get your squad to spawn as AT gunners and blow them away with organised firepower. If they are *inside* the dock, jump your squad overboard and use a boat to come in behind them. If you aren't using squad tactics then you may as well be complaining that you can't take out a tank using a pistol - you have to use every weapon at your disposal, and organisation is one of the most effective.

If the helos are blasting the snot out of everything...use the AA facilities. So many people complain about helos but won't do anything about it themselves.

I like Gator because it's where the tear gas can really reign supreme if your team will just put their damn masks on when you tell them

The AA is useless against the HIND. I found a way to dodge every single missile without dropping a single flare.

with my old comp i would go at like 1 frame a second, it was horrible. but now that i got a new computer i dont lag at all. so i guess you just need to get a good comp to play it...

all true, but unless i missed something, it still begs the question of why the bodies stick around 3x as long as on other maps - what is the utility of this (other that to provide opportunties to get killed trying to revive your previous self after respawning as a medic?), why does it happen?

especially on a map that, by the very way its designed, guarantees lag?

but yeah, when its working ok, its one of the best bf2 maps. pure infantry madness. helis and apcs are not a problem - all the real action takes place inside. if the choppers and apc are whoring it up then just don't stick your head out.

i was thinking it was the bodies, afterall, it would have to render a new player while three are still lyinging were they died.

Its also odd how high ping players dont seem to be affected, alot of the time the lag affects more than one player at the same time.

Iron Gator, my main problem with that map is the god damn tear gas clipping through walls.

Hind is crap, all you do is be AT and shoot it down. 2 shots, dead.

I have seen team mates spawn and be playing right next to their dead corpses. Thought it to be quite hilarious, or at least it gives us something to laugh about on vent.

If you have a 100hz monitor and vid driver set to Wait for vertical refresh it will be (can't remember if you can change this in game?).
