Sell the Opteron, they're made for servers and workstations.

no... bad idea... opterons are better than normal athalon 64's.... they have very high overclockability, just coz its a server chip doesnt mean it can do normal things.

btw is the opteron a socket 939 or 940? if its 939 then get a mobo that supports it... if its 940... then sell it

Opterons are the PIMP SHIZNIT.  You have a socket 940 chip though so you'll pay an arm and a leg for a motherboard and ram to go with it.  Sell it and buy a 146 from monrch.  They're dirt cheap right now.

the Opteron 242 is a socket 940 cpu designed for a multiple CPU motherboard.  It is also a single core processor.  I think it would be wiser to sell it and get a socket 939 or am2 cpu and supporting motherboard, than to get a socket 940 mobo.

socket 940 is only going to be for server type motherboards and processors, so you would be limited for future upgrades.

just my 2 cents
