I was wondering whether people thougth it was cheezy to get your combat badges by using arty in the command role. I personally think it is only cheezy if you are using it to get your plane or chopper badges.

What do you think?

It's cheezy. badges should be earned the hard way, not the arty way.

aaack, I voted no but I meant yes, I thought it said ground defense and for those I honestly don't see how 20 GD kills IAR is doable at all. As far as combat, get your boots dirty.

Same here.  Commanders should stay the hell out of planes and helis.

I think it's "cheezy" to get all your combat badges via arty.  In fact, I'm planning on even getting the kit combat experts without the intentional use of any vehicles (even the engineer!).  Even in a "rate your awards" thread, it was even recommended that I go commander with the ground support to get my expert.  I figure... naw!  I'm not really worried about the experts as much as I'm wanting to have fun with the game.

I've used arty for my expert sniper and spec ops badges... thats just because for both kits I've gotten 50+ kill rounds without having the time.
So I did it the easier way

Using the arty is an exploit in my eyes, so I say its wrong.

i don't think it's right EXCEPT for expert Ground Defence

if anyone can get that normally, without arty, i'll give them Karma for the rest of my life

I think that it's cheezy that people care how others enjoy the game/get their medals.

I can't comment, since I haven't even spent 1 second as a Commander.   Doesn't sound like any fun to me..

LOL.  That's the reason why my badge hasn't gone anywhere past bronze.  Not planning on using arty to get my veteren (though, when I got the basic, I'd had the kills, but not the time), let alone expert.

Not obsessed with karma, but given that it's one of those things that'd be good to brag about, I'll let you know if I ever do it...

Just don't hold your breath.

EDIT: Spelling.

In the case of the Ground Defense badge (while I haven't gotten it myself), it can be done with alot of hard work shooting down Blackhawk whores on Mashtuur or taking out the Chineese on advance when you control the airfeild on Wake.

I don't think that there is a badge you need to use the commander trick to get, there all attainable, with alot of work.

yeah maybe he is deciding whether or not to do it himself?

i think its bad for everything except mmg and aa. only because with both of them you cant really go out and do the work you have to let it come to you, and a good pilot wont mess with aa and even a begineer can sneak behind an mmg.

Only recently got Veteran Ground Defence (using the Gatehouse TOW on Dalian plant against Chinese coming from their uncap), so I don't know if I'll be able to manage the Expert GD the honest way, but I'll give it a try.

But I'd disagree that you can't get the Expert AA badge the non-cheesy way, because you don't have to use fixed AA sites, you can use the mobile AA.  Also, you can chase it down on Armoured Fury where the aircraft are that bit more vulnerable (slower, no afterburners, very fragile scout helo's).  Plus of course, mobile AA is pretty good at slaughtering infantry, especially the Linebacker with its big splash damage, so you can pick up a few 'easy' kills that way.  That's how I got it:

And yes, I died seconds after that shot was taken.  (already damaged, and that little red "x" on the right is coming from some dude I can't see...)

For me, the badges provide satisfaction at a job well done.  I've very little interest in getting them cheaply (like I did with the Expert Knife, all I did was patch the game...).  Expert AA is my first Expert badge, and it's nice to know that it's there because I put the effort into it.

Yes except for Ground + Air Defence - they remain ridiculously hard to get IAR.

Nicely done.

But I must know what your secret is to staying alive in that thing. The armor is absolutely terrible and even if you've got an engineer in the turret he can't even duck to avoid snipers.

Besides stat padding, hacking, fixed servers and glitching, ill get these badges by any means necessary. Getting combat badges while commander is not cheezy, pepparoni pizza topped with mushrooms with cheezy crust is cheezy.

Affirmative knight rider, using arty to get medals is cheezy.  It's sneaky, though.

All you people who complain about it secretly wish you had the medals though!  Jealously FTW!

I use artillery to turn the tide of battle in favor of my team. I have received 3 badges while commanding; 1. AA vet while commanding on wake , 1/3 of my kills were from the AA 2. the veteran combat medic while commanding on wake, used the AA to defend the ship and got half of the needed kills with it while protecting it from base raping J-10s and the rest from arty except for the 1 guy I killed twice trying to blow up my toys. I got my final kills at the end of the round (BTW this was the first that I was awarded with some of my kills being from arty, before this I had no idea that you could earn them that way) 3. expert ground defense I spent a very long game defending my toys on karkand. In that game I may have had 40 kills with the Anti-tank kit killing people coming to blow the toys. A few I was able to take out with the mounted machine gun but most I had to dismount to kill the sneaky ones who didn't want the easy kill (me sitting on the mg). I probably got half of the kills for the badge with arty drops.

I did not set out to earn the AA badge and the medic badges through arty but they came any way. I could have earned them without it, heck my expert medic was earned on sharqi after I had piloted for a friend so he could get 20 something kills for his he-lo ribbon and then I let him pilot so I could get my expert medical badge. That round we had 70+ kills in the he-lo and I had 3 on the ground (he lost his connection before I got to 40 so I decided to pound ground until he could get back in). I earned it and he rejoined and we got the chopper back.

I think it is best to just enjoy the game and get what you want out of it. I enjoy the teamwork, the challenge, and meeting new people in the game. A shiny little image that says I attained a goal is just an image and nothing else. I can't pin it on my real uniform and go to work and say look what I got playing BF2 so it really means nothing. Just play, have fun, and stop sweating the dumb stuff.
