what regiment? all i know is my Grandad was in an engineer regiment that had to go forward and clear the paths through the minefields, i dont think he ever told me which one and now its a bit late to ask, he also had to drive a bedford up and down a run way to set off any mines that the germans may have lain when they left .

Engineers, within the desert rats. (dont know the group etc.. but they sound like they were doing a similar job tbh.... he drove a dozer and was an engineer)

He went everywhere during the war, its damned impressive, i have all his documents from his career and its really intresting. He was one of the first in on the Normandy landings as well.... there are some footage reels of a house on a beach as the brits were landing ... he was inside the house having a bacon sarnie!

You can request service records from the MOD.. worthwile and very intesting to see what the "quiet old fell" did when he was a kid!

My father was an engineer too!, Royal Engineers I think. He landed on D-Day+5, he laid and repaired roads and bridges. Got some great photos of him and his mates getting drunk on 'liberated' wine after crossing The Rhine.

He always said that the most fighting he did in the war was in Oxford, against the G.I's.

Apparantly my grandad saw a bit more, he was in a squad wiped out to within 2 men... I did not get to ask him too much about it and my dad said he did not like to talk about it much.
Sound like he saw things that nobody should ever have to, he was one of the guys who had the unfortunate tasks of liberating a concentration camp, as he was a dozer driver he wound up having to dig / fill one of the large pit graves.

Glad that better men went before me to do things i would not have liked to!

I will be glad if the only warfare i ever see is through my 17" monitor.

wasn't that the battle where the Black Watch bagpipers piped the kiwis through the minefield during the night barrage. My God, the stones to march through no-mand-land armed only with a set of pipes.

Cool!  All the old pictures are pretty tight.  I love WWII history.

@all the people who are complaining that it isn't about BF2.  Suck it up.  This dude did some homework and got us a pretty sweet little history lesson.  I loved it.  I am truly sorry that you smacktards have to degrade it.
