I've looked thru the forum here for a solution for my girl's problem...but to no avail, I did search so please don't reply with "Use Search" replys.  Would really like solutions.

Anyways..  Since Sunday afternoon, when my gf tries to load into a game of BF, it takes at least 20 min to get into game.  The game itself loads fine.  Joining a server is cool too...but when it gets to the varifying client stuff...the Join Game box takes around 20 min to pop up after the load bar finishes.

I saw a post about a few ppl sayin it took an extra 3 min to load into game cuz of the patch...but she has had the patch on since it was released, and the problem hasn't started until just now.  Also...when she does play, its choppy for a few short min, then the game is fine...but when she exits the game and goes to desktop, her cursor (pointer) disappears as well, but still appears to highlight stuff.

So...before the suggestions, here's what I have done.
I have already reinstalled the game, BF2 and SF (don't have the others...she not interested in them).  Did it correctly with patches and all, problem is the same...so that kinda tells me its possibly a hardward problem.
I blew the interior of the box clean with Duster, heat sinks and such.  Nothing working so far.

I'm pretty sure it's just her comp's time to go...but I'd like to salvage it as long as possible.
she has a Pentium Celeron, 512 RamBus, 5700 GeForce...pretty old gear, but worked great...then this just happens suddenly, no changes in anything, no downloading...she just left a game, it was fine, went to ESPN.com to see the soccer game score, loaded back up...then BAM.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Is she hitting the "Play Now" or "Join Server" button?  I have NEVER had good luck with the "Play Now" button.  Tell her to quit using that one if she is and manually select a server to play.  Add a few to the favorites so you don't have to wait for a server list to come up.

When I say "She"...I mean my actual girlfriend.  She goes by FlamesMakeItFaster...check her stats, she pretty good.  We play the game together, actually good for the relationship.

Again..."She" isn't my computer..."She" is my real girl.

We actually play on a regular server...she throws in the IP, it'll show the map, it'll show the load bar, load bar fills, says Varifiying Shit, then no "Join Game" button for around 20 min.

Make sure you defrag and disk cleanup. That may cause some probs.
If you were a good guy... you'd buy your girl a new system that can run bf2 better!!!!LOL
I would feel obligated to do so if my girl played bf2!!! (that has to be a good girl... or ugly)j/k

anyway... good luck.

Wow.  The only think I can think of would be spyware or some other background program that might be running that you are not aware of.

If nothing found... defrag, reinstall.

"What are the specs of the computer?" should be the first question asked.

Does it occur on single player?  Does this only occur on ranked servers?  What is running in the background when she trys to start the game?  Have you defraged, rebooted your PC?

As a side note, I have been looking through the forums, and it seems that since Sunday people are having issues, like this one or BSOD.  Does anyone know if DICE had a hot patch for any servers?

I remember her posting one time on here, but i only remember because flames is in my pid as well.

I recommend that you don't buy a new computer until the release of patch 1.4, i know that for allot of people it has been acting very screwey sense the release of 1.3...

but if it still does it after 1.4 through that hunk of junk computer out you're window and visit http://www.newegg.com i like them allot >

But you know what if the hardware on you're computer is crapping out, and you are using windows xp or higher, it should give a box that is telling you, Hey you need a new hard-drive, or hey you're cpu is to hot, or hey you're video card is overheating.
I am not saying that windows should do this, i am saying allot of the time windows does do that.

Can you post the spec's of your gf's computer. Also, check the background and see how many programs are running.  Over 50, thats a problem.  Shutdown virus software.  Check to make sure that there is enough space on the hard disk.  This will cause a major slow down.  Download and install and run PerfectDisk. PerfectDisk is a great defragger (as well as O&O defrag). This will definately give the computer a needed boost. If you want, run HijackThis! (download and run) and PM me the results. Any number of things could have gone bad.  Its not likely the RAM is bad because everything would be slow, not just BF2.  Also, this problem just started occuring? Check the harddisk and run a defragger.  That would be the first 2 things I would do.
