A joystick isn't extremely necessary unless you want to sit there for hours fine tuning it and honing in on your skills.
I found that a joystick is really helpful when you want to line up bombing runs and strafe bases with bullets. But on the other hand.... i found that a helicopter is harder with a joystick then a mouse. but thats just me.
I also prefer keyboard/mouse for choppers. However, within 5 minutes of hooking up my joystick (Logitech Freedom 2.4 GHz Wireless), I saw my skills increase noticeably. It is much easier to manuever, dodge, bomb, kill, etc.
I can always tell when I'm chasing/being chased by a keyboarder/joystick pilot.

Yeah, I am the only person who uses my joystick to pilot choppers...
I have that same stick. I messed with it for a few days but I had to go back to the mouse. My problem is that whenever I have time to practice with it I can also be playing online with all you guys. Sooo, I opt for the live play. Hence the MX510 is owning my Xtreme pro as of right now.
Could THAT (joystick...) be the answer to my freaking louzy flying "skill". Even my left shoe can fly better than me.
I have tried (uuuhh....and I promise I really have..) with mouse and kbd but only thing I can do is cover my eyes when some enemy comes to get me. PANIC ! I probably hit all the keys on kbd....
EDIT : last time I used joystick was about 15 years ago and I sweared I will never use/need one again..

I never fly jets ( hate 'em ), only choppers. For choppers, mouse is perfectly fine, I guess. At least, when you're playing public only....

I can fly a plane with relative ease nowadays using a mouse, but whenever I try a chopper it feels as if I am loaded with lead. I should practise a bit on the single player mode.
Any useful tips for handling the helicopter? It is a tad bit different in handling for all I experienced.
On the other hand, I do tricks with jeeps many are wondering how I pull 'm off.

You may call me the AA-nightmare. Love using AA turrets to bring down planes and choppers.
Reminds me of one occurence though, on the daqing oilfields (if I remember the map correctly). Had this chopper perfectly in my scope, solid lock, and he was hovering, so I let go of them two missiles...
...to have them fly straight into the side of a friendly chopper just rising in the LoF (Line of Fire) from behind a fence.
well, always expect the unexpected on a battlefield, I say..
i started to fly with my joypad and its great for choppers but sucks for the jets.
so i switched to my joystick and then i owned with the jet but had some problems with the choppers cause i cant use both. but i get the hang of it, only prob is that i dont have a dead zone on the joystick so im really bad at hovering the chopper so ill just stick the attack helis
for ur problem that u cant fly hmm maybe u need some wings jk its all just practice and u should fly alone on an empty lan server and try to make certain moves eg. loop, flying along a street something like that.

I love those stingers, you line it up, wait for them to waste their flares, regain the lock, fire......
off they go for 10 foot then veer off straight at a friendly blackhawk somewhere on the opposite end of the level, -24 for me.

mostly it pisses me off that u always get a punish for it, like u could change it in any way. maybe they should build in a destruct buttom for the stingers if they miss so u dont have the tk´s..:XDR:.PureFodder wrote:
