You can upgrade to a 3700+ from that pretty easy. It runs @ 2.2ghz and is very overclockable.

Yes, it is a socket 939.

There is a big difference because the 3700+ is a San Diego core. These cores offer 1mb of L2 cache compared to 512k L2 cache found on previous cores. The 3700's have been known to be OC'd slightly past 3ghz with air cooling and the right voltage. It's easy to get them up to the 2.7ghz-2.9ghz range.
