Ok,

first off, Im excluding any maps with the J10 or Mig VS the F35B, I think we all know there is a massive inbalance there that desperately needs to be resolved.

But what I do want to say however, is I think air to air combat has never been better in BF2! I was playing Operation Clean Sweep 64 the other day, flying the F18, and man it was one of the best times Ive ever had in a jet.

The F18 and the Mig are really balanced, and make for great dogfighting, I think I had one dogfight with a Mig pilot who just WOULDNT give up, took me most of 5 minutes to eventually shake him, great fun!

Also I think the AA missiles now aer just about perfect when it comes to AA, they are alot harder to dodge then they were back whenever I started flying, but not totally impossible like in more recent patches.

Also the fighters are more eefective against the bombers, which encourage further team work to get the fighters to help out the bombers and go after enemy fighters, instead of totally ingnoring enemy air for the easier ground targets.

Anyway, bassically I notice with BF2, people (noobs) tend to maon alot, and they lisetn to the people who moan and they change things and fuck up the game. So Im saying (apart from what I said above about the F35B) - Its perfect now, dont change a thing!

I agree. Air combat now = best. Even though some people might complain about the missiles.

I love to go the old style bomb mode and shoot them down.. but just so annoying nowadays with so many noobs that just bail after they realise there being shot down.. so have to resort to missiles sometimes

I don't fly very often, but when I do,  AA rarely seems to be a problem.  Mostly because onone is ever in them anyway.     Mobile AA's are another story.   FLARES  FLARES!!!!  CRAP!!!!!!!!

flying with the chopper on wake or smoke screen is very hard, because of the AA campers....but...excluded of that its ok....^^

I am still a virgin in the pilot seat for both the helicopter and the jet. But I can say that I learned the most while flying a J-10 on Wake when it was a 16max player server. I still suck at bomb runs though. And though I know there is a massive imbalance between it and the F-35b. I still learned a lot about flying. Its definently easier than flying a chopper. That is until you got an ace on your tale and then things get dicey.

I haven't had a chance to fly much after that one time. It seems like most servers don't want newbs flying. They say you should practice on your own. The problem is that for planes there is no single player map with planes. I know I know, you can still create your own server. That only teaches me how to not run into crap when I'm flying. I'm past that now I need to know how to handle myself in the saddle with others chasing my tale with gun fire and missiles.

Choppers are difficult because I want to learn how to use a joystick with one. The problem is I'm over-correcting all the time. That atleast is possible to learn in single player. Though your "mates" won't let you get in the gunny seat if they already took off...great AI work there.

Anyway back to the topic, I apologise for straying...the aerial combat in this game is very awesome considering a real battle is taking place on the ground as well.

Despite this and the possibilities that will be going on with 2142 I won't be playing that game. I'm looking forward more so to ET...I know its blasphemy...but widespread landscape with doom3 textures is yummy.

How bout the fact that the F35 doesnt get hit by every missile is made airborne. If they change that its going to be a lot better.

Its just a flying coffin the way it is now.

Actually, recently I've been seeing people treat the F-35 more like a Helo than a plane. They come in hovering on bombing runs. I guess it's easier to hit things that way? Or maybe htey just gave up dodging any missiles shot at them and resigned themselves to their fate.

edit: I dunno why I said J-10

I think they need to make flying harder. As it stands now I can get in a plane and get 15 - 20 kills without dying and I absolutely suck at flying. Usually my death is from hitting a tree or something noobish like that.

no no no

this is what I mean by people moaning.

Is people put half as much effort into AA as they did flying jets you would be saying the opposite.

how is it noobish to bail out when you know you're about to die? only noobs willingly die and give the enemy points. l33t players try to survive.

The AA missiles suck, impossible to dodge if you're not in the J-10 or Eurofighter and even then you risk getting hit.

I rarely dogfight with the F-35B. Instead I just use the F-35B to bomb. Basically I fly high and wait for info on enemy locations, then bomb them, fly high, resupply, repeat.

Nobody plays clean sweep anymore because I fucking PWN at that map if I get in a bomber... the s34 seems to have the strongest cannon in the game and just wastes those aa sites and if you have a co pilot who shoots on instinct that hes going to hit something instead of being a "fire on lock" co pilot that doesnt hit shit and complains they dont get kills, its like you're unstoppable.

are you f'ing kidding me?

The times were pilots were FORCED to use guns, were FORCED to have skill to bring down other jets.

Those times are gone now.

MiG-29 vs. F-18 is NOT balanced. the MiG-29 turns faster than the f-18 and is therefore much better.

Bombers? Bombers are, as always, free kills for a fighter jet.

AA? still useless as ever. Only if you're not aware of the situation and fly straight over AA are you going to die. AA vehicles = free kills! AA sites = free kills without even needing to waste bombs!

Of course, the majority of the BF2 community has never properly experienced jets through all patches and doesn't know what is and isn't happening. Please, the best time for dogfighting was in 1.12 and earlier. You lot have your AA from 1.2 or 1.3, they're still useless when it comes to downing an experienced pilot.

there is one map on single player with jets it is operation cleansweep so go to that and have fun even though that is much harder to fight with the computer players than against other people

Check out Operation Clean Sweep in Single player mode. It has both airfields active. Just choose a side and get to flying. I felt like you did until I spent two straight weekends flying in single-player. The time allowed me to get used to timing my bombing runs, dogfighting with the IA in the other jet and trying out both planes. I found the F-15 to be a great all-weather fighter/bomber on that map.

As of late, I have been playing on Op: Road Rage servers and have been having a ball with the new bombers. The mobile AA is a pain in the arse, but it is not a scale tipper. Just be very observant of your surroundings and try to get the other pilot on your squad, or get on his to max out your ability to cover each other and get kills and kill assists.

There is nothing more frightening than to have two A-10's bearing down on your position and they are dropping 500 lb bombs on your head!
