So I could safely run PC3200 without having to change anything in the BIOS?
Nevermind, I found out the answer.  But if I put it in the slot and it switches down to speed, will it go to PC2700 speed or PC2100 speed?
The system uses SPD to determine the settings, and will always downclock to whatever your BIOS is set to, or the lowest common denominator of already installed RAM.  If you have RAM that is only PC2100, then that becomes the least common denominator and that is where the system will clock the faster RAM.

Would it be safe/easy to change it to PC2700 or should I keep it at PC2100?

It will automatically change if you take out the PC 2100 stick and put in the PC 2700 stick.

I'm getting a PC3200 stick though.  Damn, if it's gonna run at the same speed as what I have now, I might as well get PC2100 instead.  Actually, I just found this, so I might reconsider getting PC2700.  3200 won't even help much if my comp can't run at that speed.  Unless, like I said, I can change it in the BIOS safely and easily.  Sorry if i'm confusing all of you.  I think i'm just gonna have to go with the 2700.  I don't see the point of buying something for more money that won't even run at it's intended speed.

This one is backwards compatible, will the BIOS automatically change it to 2100 stay at 2700?

The answer to that question has already been posted.  It will run at the same speed as whatever you're running now.  Unless what you're running now is higher than the stick you're about to buy.

That sucks, so should I just get PC2100 like I was going to?

Depends on whether your motherboard is capable of using anything higher than PC2100 to its full capacity.  I would get the 3200, to leave room for future upgrades.

I won't be getting a new mobo for it if that's what I should get it for.  This is an HP computer so there would be a whole bunch of compatability issues probably.

The last time I checked, due to the lack of demand the PC2100 was just as expensive as as PC3200.  This PC3200 is within $2-3 of the RAM you linked, and is from a far more reliable place than the one you listed.

I'm talking about the very first one, the one I put on the opening post in this thread.  I really want to keep it under 35$ so i'm not spending so much.

Nevermind they got rid of the OEM version I was gonna buy, now it's a rip-off so it looks like I have no choice but to get the one you recommended.

Just a question, can you negotiate it so that they sell you two at one time on eBay for paying double the price?  I really want to get 2 gigs now and I want to ensure that I get two of the same kind.

Also does the 400MHz thing mean anything for me or is just how fast it goes?  I don't want ANYTHING to hold me back from getting that RAM.

400MHz = PC3200 it's a different name for the same thing.

And please don't triple post. There's a edit button on the bottom right hand side of your posts.

What is high-density RAM?  Also, should I take out my existing RAM or wll leaving one of the 256s in there be O.K.?

Damnit, that completely ruins it.  My computer is incompatible with high-density RAM and that's all they had.  Now my only choice is to buy overpriced shit, OMG.
