Alright, Im not the most computer smart person in the world but I think I could probably build my own computer with alittle help. What I want to do now is play BF2 on EVERYTHING MAXED OUT with almost no video lag. So far Ive picked out these things: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Sho … ShipMethod
I already have a case, monitor, keyboard, speakers, and a mouse from my old computer. Though I might buy a new case if it would make sense. My budget is about 1,200$ and Im wondering what else I would need to get, I also have a 80GB hard drive that I can put in the computer so I dont realy need to get that. HELP!!!!!!! lol
If you think there is something I should add to my shoping cart just send me the link and I will do it.

What about this system?

"Ultima Extreme SLi 7950 GX2" AMD Athlon 64 FX62 Dual DDR2 Silent PhysX Enabled System (FS-025-OK)
If you are looking for the ultimate AMD box then look no further than the Ultima Extreme SLi AMD Athlon 64 FX62 Dual Core. This system is further future proofed with the addition of a Ageia PhysX accelerator card which improves the realism of games. Supplied pre-built it has an impressive specification to say the least :-

- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX62 (Socket AM2) CPU
- AMD Approved cooler
- Asus M2N32-SLi Deluxe Wireless Dual X16 Lane (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-8500 TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit
- 2 x 150GB Western Digital Raptor 16MB Cache SATA Hard Drive (RAID 0 Configured)
- NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB GDDR3 Graphics Card
- Ageia PhysX Accelerator card future proofing this system for PhysX enabled games!!!!
- Plextor PX-716AL 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Gamer Sound Card
- Tagan SLi Approved 900W ATX2.0 PSU
- Windows XP Professional pre-installed with License and CD supplied

It only costs about £2,500 Maybe you could get two of them

Edit: Sorry ... this is an extremely unhelpful post ... it'd be great to get one of these though

your link doesn't work...
but here:
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wis … er=3443584
that's a system I put together that will smoke just about anything within twice it's price range.

oh and don't get the CPU from newegg, get it from monarch.

yeah thats a great rig. i would swap the mobo for a DFI NF4 ultra though. it's a very good overclocker. you should be able to hit 2.4 - 2.5 GHz @ stock V and way beyond with a small V increase. Also the TT big typhoon is kina cheapish and has a ver good cooling power

I would agree with max, although I doubt that Foley will be the overclocking type.  So I will go in the middle and offer the Asus A8N-E motherboard - as sl050h knows I am not a big fan of ECS motherboards because of bad experiences (at least with their more budget boards) and they have left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth.

true, i was merely giving my 2 cents on the list that was posted.

This is what i send to foley as a reply to his PM:
"in the first message the shopping cart is empty, you need to make a public wishlish or screenshot it.

With 2 Gigs or RAM (even 1.5 - but that would be a asyymetrical config which has bad performance) (BF2 needs about 850MB of RAM on all high + 400-600 for Windows) you should be all set for all highs.

A 7900gt should be enough to run at all high. From reading the posts in this forum anything lower and you probabely need to drop some settings.

For the processor i think that a cheapish CPU (single core, INTEL @ 3.4 GHz roughly and AMD @ 2.0 GHz roughly) should do the trick. Again i think that a lower proc will severely hinder all highs, especially on maps with losts of action in the same place like iron gator or palace @ warlord (i used to have a 3.2 GHz Intel and it really struggled here). Also in 1 Month (although this might be a paper launch) Core2Duo ("conroe") is coming out with much better performance at lower prices.

For HD: it should have an RPM of at least 7200 RPM in order to load the maps fast (10000 RPM like i have will allow you to always span first, also better if you want to FRAPS stuff, but they are pretty expensive so 7200 is better if you are on a budget)

if you take roughly what i have said you should be able to fit just into the 1000$ budget guideline. A good case is the Antech Sonata II (it includes a good PSU). When choosing stuff make sure that the proc and mobo are compatible (socket is always an indication). Also 939 sockets need DDR RAM, nearly all others DDR2"

I had a typhoon on that "wish list" rig, but HSFs are so widespread and you can never know if you're getting the best, the worst, the cheapest, etc...
I actually was going to swap it out with the big zalman cnps9500, but for $60 I don't think it cools that much better than the AC freezer 64 that costs under half that.

Just a few updates:
I have an ECS KN1 Lite board running an opteron 146 right now prime stable at 285Mhz. (2.85Ghz).  It only needed an extra .1v so total volage is roughly 1.5 with an XP-90 HSF.
I also have my ECS KN1 SLI Lite board running an opteron 165 at 310Mhz for a total of 2.79Ghz on stock voltage with a AC freezer 64.

thats a sweet overclock. You must have a good stepping.

The 165 is a ccbbe 0610, known good stepping.  Most of the guys with chip getting better #s, but mine doesn't respond well to added voltage.  It might be the mobo holding me back, but it's not worth another $100 to get another 100 or 200Mhz (to me).  I know it will boot as high as 320Mhz with only an extra .1v, but fails prime.  I have a water cooling setup that I think I'll be installing so I'll find out if it's the mobo or not.
The 146 is cacje 0607.
both CPUs were ordered from monarch computers and were about $260 (shipped) for the 165 and $160 (shipped) for the 146.
