that's a system I put together that will smoke just about anything within twice it's price range. 

oh and don't get the CPU from newegg, get it from monarch.

I would agree with max, although I doubt that Foley will be the overclocking type.  So I will go in the middle and offer the Asus A8N-E motherboard - as sl050h knows I am not a big fan of ECS motherboards because of bad experiences (at least with their more budget boards) and they have left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth.

true, i was merely giving my 2 cents on the list that was posted.

This is what i send to foley as a reply to his PM:
"in the first message the shopping cart is empty, you need to make a public wishlish or screenshot it.

With 2 Gigs or RAM (even 1.5 - but that would be a asyymetrical config which has bad performance) (BF2 needs about 850MB of RAM on all high + 400-600 for Windows) you should be all set for all highs.

A 7900gt should be enough to run at all high. From reading the posts in this forum anything lower and you probabely need to drop some settings.

For the processor i think that a cheapish CPU (single core, INTEL @ 3.4 GHz roughly and AMD @ 2.0 GHz roughly) should do the trick. Again i think that a lower proc will severely hinder all highs, especially on maps with losts of action in the same place like iron gator or palace @ warlord (i used to have a 3.2 GHz Intel and it really struggled here). Also in 1 Month (although this might be a paper launch) Core2Duo ("conroe") is coming out with much better performance at lower prices.

For HD: it should have an RPM of at least 7200 RPM in order to load the maps fast (10000 RPM like i have will allow you to always span first, also better if you want to FRAPS stuff, but they are pretty expensive so 7200 is better if you are on a budget)

if you take roughly what i have said you should be able to fit just into the 1000$ budget guideline. A good case is the Antech Sonata II (it includes a good PSU). When choosing stuff make sure that the proc and mobo are compatible (socket is always an indication). Also 939 sockets need DDR RAM, nearly all others DDR2"

thats a sweet overclock. You must have a good stepping.

The 165 is a ccbbe 0610, known good stepping.  Most of the guys with chip getting better #s, but mine doesn't respond well to added voltage.  It might be the mobo holding me back, but it's not worth another $100 to get another 100 or 200Mhz (to me).  I know it will boot as high as 320Mhz with only an extra .1v, but fails prime.  I have a water cooling setup that I think I'll be installing so I'll find out if it's the mobo or not.
The 146 is cacje 0607.
both CPUs were ordered from monarch computers and were about $260 (shipped) for the 165 and $160 (shipped) for the 146.
