That's right. Body armor isn't an excuse for losing a firefight. If you are a spec-ops with a G36C (changed since somehow that connected this to the G36E topic, don't ask me), and you lose to an assault player with the F2000, do not type into global chat, "well you had body armor so of course you won noob". Nor should you delude yourself into thinking as such. Why, you ask? It is a big Kevlar bullet-proof vest, no? It should stop bullets, no? Well, let's dive into the wonderful world of the Wiki, which will help you in BF2 far more than real life.
Take the MP5A3, the default weapon for the USMC Anti-Tank class and my most used weapon in the entire game. With 19 damage, it takes 6 shots to take down an un-armored target and 8 to down an armored one. 2 whole shots, woo woo. It takes an AT soldier less than 0.135 of a second to fire off those extra 2 shots.
Or the MG36. This does 30 damage. Thus, it takes 4 shots to kill an un-armored targets and 5 to kill an armored one. How long extra will it take this machine-gunner to mow your ass down? Exactly one-tenth of a second.
In fact, using the MG36 as an example again, the only two examples that I have seen in my 160+ hours of play (this may not be much compared to you, but still quite a bit to be running around shooting stuff, hm?) is when the gunner has 4 rounds left in his C-Mag, or he sucks and can't hit for shit.
