I received my vet AA on Ghost raping the western points. I could have easily gotten expert if I'd have done it earlier in the round. Expert AA I got on Sharqi as CO on the air field. I only actually shot down 1 jet. I did manage to arty 2 helos that round too. The rest were just regular old arty kills.

Just got Expert AA on Leviathan in a AA tank. Sit at the fuel depo and shoot down helis coming off the mec base, bout 10 of those. killed 2 other AA tanks, rest was infantry+jeep kills.
Got my Veteran, Expert and ribbon in anti-air in one round for sitting in the gun in the big boat for USMC on Wake. Just artillery, and suddenly it came
I just got mine the other day on Zatar Wetkands on the US team using the AA vehicle from the uncap. It's really effective against ground troops and choppers
operation smoke screen for AA (got about 40 kills in a short round, as there are so many choppers and planes to kill)

I don't have any Ground Defense badge, thats why I haven't got promoted.............I think. I have been lacking it for 4months now, but could I be arsed sitting on a tow waiting for tanks etc.........no.I have little time to Play BF2 so when I do, its kill kill kill......the TOW boars me. Although I never thought of sitting on one and being commander. must give it a go.
Expert AA was easy...Ghost town 32 player and go do some infantry killing with the Linebacker...way better than Apc against troops.
Easiest and the cheapest way is by using the commander tactic. I used it on the espert ground defense badge on Sharqi.
IMO it's even too easy to get that AA badge even without the commander thing. I got on on 64 player Kubra Dam being MEC. Loads of choppers and planes passed the bridge where I was waiting. And I used the Support to give ammo to myself.

Armoured Fury has made Air Defense very easy to get I just sat in along a tree line in Harvest and the Helis just kept on coming plus a few infantry crossing the fields.
I also used the commander tactic (second AA gun on the carrier and the ground defense at the USMC base in karkand) But it felt cheap so after it I also tried without commanding.
The north village AA gun or the one on the Arty island. Only problem is that when you don't hit them, you are sure death if you don't get out. So I tried in a linebacker on Kubra, you can also kill infantry with it, so it goes a lot faster. And I even won a fight against an apc thanks to my mate who was repairing on top, that's how I got 'expert AA' (if I didn't had it the commander way)
On wake the tower ground defense gun is the best indeed. Be PLA and hope USMC only takes beach (and maybe south village). It always seems that USMC has less snipers in the attack than PLA who needs to defend. However, I found karkand to be easier for ground defense. The one next to square flag can make tons of kills but after a while they go around you. Then I would try the tow on the suburb or the one at train accident for tanks. All depends how the game evolves of course.
Oh and patience is a virtue ;-)
