Notice how when PRC got a seat on the UN, ROC lost one. Doesn't that strike you as awfully coincidental?

Yes I have seen Crash and yes I was implying that perhaps diversity was a cause but not neccessarily the only one.Badrism wrote:

Now what is it that you don't understand?wikipedia.org wrote:
The Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the PRC under a one-party system since the country's establishment in 1949.

ok u start a new thread... they are still communists or socialists... same thing... if china aint a commie nation then why do they censor information? u get arrestesd if u dont agree w/ the governmentBubbalo wrote:
The fact that they call themselves Communist doesn't mean they are. Same goes for USSR. Regardless, if we're going to keep going with this we ought start a new thread.
Communism is an economice theory you twit.cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

Because it made people happy? Because they originally intended to but didn't? Because they used to be (according to some) and now aren't? How the fuck should I know. Iraq called itself a Democratic Republic under Saddam, IIRC, but it wasn't.Jenspm wrote:
I don't see why they would call themselves comunists when they aren't...

Again, what is it that is so hard to understand?wikipedia.org wrote:

Oh, well if wikipedia says it it must be true, despite the fact that neither the USSR nor the PRC have stuck to Communist principles when it didn't suit them.Jenspm wrote:

Well, Tito was better. He was the only person to have any measure of success in calming Yugoslavia down.cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

i wish kim jong-ill gets shot
so what ? Even so-called democratic countries tend to forget their democratic principles once in a while when it suits their interests ( see gitmo, wiretapping, CIA prisoner transports, etc ).Bubbalo wrote:

But these are all done by elected governmentsB.Schuss wrote:

Not it isn't. Totalitarianism is a political ideology which most (all?) self-proclaimed Communist states have ascribed to. Few (none that I'm aware of) have actually been Communist states.B.Schuss wrote:
communism is more of a political ideology, not necessarily a form of state economy.
Yeah, it'd be good if we could shift all these posts into a new thread.......B.Schuss wrote:

This Democratic nation business has been blurred IMO. When a government is elected, its duty is do do what the people want them to do. Some nations have massive Spin departments (a relatively new phenomenon) who's sole job is to change the publics opinion to what the government want to do. Infact they aren't then doing what the people want, they are doing what THEY want. This isn't true democracy.Bubbalo wrote:
The definition of a democract is a nation which elects it's government (originally a nation which put all things to a vote, but the Athenians learned the folly of that). A country can be as kind or as nasty as it likes, fact is if it has an elected government it is a democracy. Hitler was originally a democratic leader, before he outlawed all parties except the Nazi party, and then abolished democracy all together.

Provided the government is elected, it's a Democracy, no matter how mean they are. Same as no matter how nice a Totalitarian government is, it's still Totalitarian.
