I don't really tend to buy from any other retailer other than newegg unless, it's like a $50 + difference.
Thanks, your information was helpful.

I'm a price shopper, so I shop everywhere. I buy lots of stuff from newegg too. Monarch is sweet because there's also no sales tax for us living in Kalifornia.acdc wrote:

Good god no. I tried XP64 and it blows. It was like running the Vista beta. Drivers didn't work, apps wouldn't install, no one's made anything for the 64 bit os yet. Most stuff will run in the 32bit emulation layer, but then what's the f'ing point?137[CSi] wrote:
Granted I also run a 64 bit OS now since the 32 bit version of XP professional was actually holding back the potential of my computer.
I plan on upgrading to XP 64-bit when Vista comes out, I'll stick with 64 until Microsoft no longer supports XP or if some really killer games come out for Vista which I'm sure that's what will make me buy it. Hopefully in 07 there will be fully supported drivers etc for XP 64-bit.chuyskywalker wrote:

The only real gain you get is when something is particularily processor intense and can actually use the extra addressing space nicely -- which is just about NOTHING you use on a day to day basis.
So, for those wondering, XP64 == teh lose unless you specifically need it.
dont do that. there is basically no driver support for XP-64 and there won't ever be any (and it costs a lot). 64 bit is currently not needed. Stick with xp-32 until you upgrade to vista.acdc wrote:

I'll probably be getting the Opteron 146 or 170.
You're saying there won't ever be decent driver support for XP 64-bit? Why is that? Everyone is getting ready for Vista? I don't really want to upgrade to Vista unless I have too!max wrote:

btw: (my) opty 170 is a terrific overclocker
You, of course, do realize that MS is making many of their own games (future stock) Vista only, right? Halo 3 is the big one.acdc wrote:

I have no doubt they'll push it to the other vendors as well either through direct B2B marketing/incentives or by making DX10 suck in XP.
ok ok, I'll buy the 165slo5oh wrote:

I still recommend a 165 over the 170. There's now been 2 reports of great steppings purchased recently (last week or 2) from monarch. The only worry you will have is if your mothboard will do it. I hear the make it or break it line is at 300Mhz for a good motherboard. If you slap one of those monarch 165s on a DFI nf4 board you could see 3ghz. At minimum I'd say you'll be around 2.7 to 2.8 (if you get a bad stepping). Just my $.02. If you're not already checking, I'd suggest you check out some good OCing forums where you can read reviews on different chips, different steppings, etc. I like extremeoverclocking.com, but there are many others.
