This is outta curiosity. 

I know some players have high spec rigs with dynamic lighting/shadows off just so that people can't hide in the shadows etc.

Personally I like to keep my settings on high.  Its a bugger getting shot in the shade but it looks awesome (especially the muzzle flash).  Means of course that when i'm in chopper on maps like Sharki that I can't see into the things like the construction site due to shadows, but I just fire into there anyway in the hope I can hit someone.

I also know there are some people that have no choice what settings they use which is why theres the third option.

Anyone who's interested my machine spec is as follows:

P4 3.2Ghz HT
2Gb DDR2 ram
2 Gainsward Ultr2400 Nvidia 6800GT Graphics Cards
250mb hard drive

I have a geforce 5200 128Mb. I have everything on low or off and view distance scale at 75%..... and it still lags like a bitch inside buildings.

The shadows on the soldiers are messed up. So it's pointless.

Like polar said, EA are vampirs so they made the soldiers vampires .

Mine are on.  I've noticed sometimes I can tell if someone is around me b/c their shadow will go through objects. But I might try them off to see the difference.

If I had a rig that could run shadows on full, I probably would. But I don't, so I run off or low static.

Since 1.3 this seems not to work anymore. Please take a look if you can set your Lightning to low and enable (either Low, Medium, High) Dynamic Shadows. If i switch them on, BF2 seems to disable them again.

Sometimes it gives me a small advantage because you see a shadow poking out round a corner. Usually it's just aesthetic though.

From what I've seen what you're getting has only happened on systems with Nvidia cards, my bros does the same as you he has a 6800GT, mine has all the settings it always had (ATi X800XT PE btw).
