Because AMD is still at the height of its game with 64 chips...
as in AMD is still the best so there's no reason to drop the price until AMD releases better chips or Intel actually brings forth a chip worthy enough to compete with AMD.

I though the prices did fall because the the fx-60 is below 1000 on new egg and the 939 boards are lower also. The asus a8n32-deluxe is below 200.

By the looks of whats happening now AMD is getting crushed by conroe... a 300usd cpu can compete with its athalon FX60... nothing to worry about? i think not

Well, from what I hear, Conroe is set to release on July 23rd...
If I'm right, AMD still has an upper edge right now even though it's more than a bit worried (or so I hear)

so theyre not worried they might go bankrupt in 2 months? from what ive heard no one is buy AM2 and waiting for conroe... btw there are conroes on sale on ebay... also 2.4ghz conroe can overclock to 3.6ghz on AIR... u cant do that with an amd

I will wait for final production to make my decision, but as of right now I may be upgrading to Conroe in a year if it is going to continue breaking the WR's that I have seen (Super Pi 1M in 11.3xx seconds!) and the insane overclockability (lol cyborg) that they have while on air, they are just asking to go underneath my storm!

Also, I don't think many people are buying AM2, why would people buy AM2 with 939 somewhat matured and the release of Conroe coming so soon?

I personally wouldn't. I think the only reason to get AM2 is if you are an AMD fanboy and are upgrading from Socket754 or SocketA.

I will personally wait to see if there is a design similar to the links I posted about (with 4FPU etc) that would not only be a die shrink but also give a large boost in processing power (from what I have read, as I am not huge into cpu architecture -- yet)

oooooh, that is a tougher question that chicken or the egg...

I would say Conroe, but only after the second or third revision has been released (which may be by 2007 with K8L to compete against it) and there are stable/good overclocking motherboards. I never jump directly onto a brand new technology/design as they are bound to have too many bugs.

its not just conroe is fast thats making it good, its uber cheap, fast and high overclockability on air... btw new WR 10.4 secs on super pi 1m, 3 mhz off 5ghz (darn fsb...) unless K8L can have around the same pricing and can compare with conroe, then i might consider it... but do remember intel can always have massive price cuts whilst AMD cannot (smaller companies cant afford it)

I read through a few overclocking sprees and never once heard if that 4.5 to 5Ghz mark was Prime95 stable.

Saw a lot of 3Dmark and Pi calculation stuff, but not any Prime95.

If the comp reboots because of instability after 2 hours of load, then it aint worth jackshit o/ced.

well i never said anything about stabilty did i but yeah ur kinda right there, but running super pi is like cpu stressing though (32m). if ur thinking of upgrade, i think conroe is the way to go since there is no hard info on K8L, and the asus workstation 975x mobo can support conroe... i got the board and asus sent me their latest bios update for conroe... but u need conroe in it

I don't have a gaming computer and if I had to upgrade this to something hardcore, I would go with Conroe for value.

Well, like Janus said, I'll probably do what he says and not buy Conroe until after a few revisions...
What I will do is probably wait a while after Conroe "kills" everybody else and then go buy an AMD or another non-Conroe Intel as there has to be some kind of price drop after Conroe hits the market for a while. It all just depends on how much it drops.
