realised I'm not cut out for being locked in a building 8 hours a day with constant oversight, started searching for field work, have had good experience mixing with all walks of life, can be as comfortable in a smack den as in a mansion. this position came up, I applied, got it. it's been great and worked really well for me the past year, but duties have been increasing with no increase in pay, and the pay isn't that good to begin with.SuperJail Warden wrote:

I snapped when someone not above me started speaking to me like he was, and asked for us to submit stock on a monthly basis, despite the fact we already submit it on a daily basis. Extra work for no reason, other than their laziness. The information is already there, go get it. Don't make me resubmit it. Rage applied for jobs that day, and since getting this other offer, the job has felt incredibly stressful, and I've felt undervalued, even before these past couple weeks when the universe decided to align all the shite jobs into 2 weeks.
I've had a muscle spasm in my left eye for the past couple of weeks and I'm sure it's stress related.

Going into work tomorrow knowing that I won't really be teaching and engaging with learning but instead managing behavioral issues and disrespect. I will spend a lot of time talking to kids about things they don't understand much less care about. Wasting both of our time.
I plan to modify my teaching style this year to include more movies so I don't frustrate both of us by trying to get them to read.

ICE putting a 6 year requirement for student loans seems like a scam. I assume there will be drastic cuts to ICE before the 6 years set in. Won't be even be the same administration

I don't intend to ever fully pay that back.
But I will say the education I received has rewarded me with a career that provides me with comfort. The money isn't great but all the externalities aren't bad. Can always convince some cat lady I am good with kids and like them.

becoming a teacher has always been a safe bet for graduates pretty much anywhere, at any point in history. getting an education to become an educator should be straightforward. obviously, both high-school teachers and university academics have been dealing with sliding pay, eroding workplace rights, increasing precarity, etc. not to mention the sort of social and cultural devaluation of the profession. teachers and academics are now held in contempt just as often as being pillars of their community and respected do-gooders, etc.
6-figure debt to access just about one of the most typical middle-class professions imaginable ... scary stuff. med or law school? i get it. MBAs? charge em sky high! but teaching? nursing? social work? research? library or archival services? etc.? what the hell are we doing here. most high-school teachers nationally are not making good enough salaries to justify that initial outlay on tuition fees.

I am an outlier in terms of student debt and stuff. I have 2 x BAs and 2 x MATs. BA in Political Science, BA in History, MAT in Special Education, MAT in Educational Leadership. I guess I am overly qualified for my position/field. I only needed a BA + some extra course credits to get a special education cert but I really want to do more than teaching special education until I turn 65.

First full week of school and I need to do mandatory reporting for violence. Insane student with ODD. Had a handgun wallpaper. Shitty personality, out of control and rude.

The clincher is I get paid to be at work, OTOH house renovation is also profitable.
I could easily get injured doing renovation work, its amazing that I have got this far without serious injury or death, probably I have skin cancer, arthritis and lung disease incoming. Also construction dust is heavily implicated in motor neurone disease.
Overall getting paid to sit at a desk enjoying free AC and coffee and telling people they're fuckwits is the better deal.
At work we have a new COO. If I get his ear his first challenge is going to be triggering the two dept COOs who have done nothing for ~20 years to do something useful, or preferably fire them.
