Unbalanced translocation of the 7th and 18th chromosome. Trisomy for a portion of 7, monosomy for a portion of 18. Comes with a host of physical and developmental problems. He's nearly 8 and is about 6 months developmentally. But we were told to expect to bury him by the time he turned 18 months old, so every day we get is a blessing.

I constantly refer to this (great) Goethe quote:

"One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words."

A good book. An uplifting song (especially one that seems to fit the mood I feel). A profound picture. A simple conversation with someone I can confide in - or sometimes a conversation of nothing with someone I don't know - that reassures my faith in humanity.

Sometimes simply reflecting on life, philosophizing, realizing the incredible power of the human mind to create and maintain states of being.

I appreciate the sentiment, but there's nothing special about what me or my wife do. We're just parents trying to make the best life for our kids. No different than what any parent should be doing. It's nothing we ever dreamed we would be able to handle before he was born, but it's just what you do when you have children.

TikTok people are making videos about how teachers who dress up for work and do this are actually pedophiles. I took that very personally since I am the male version of dressing up for work.

a lot of commentary on what teachers wear seem to forget that teachers interact with colleagues. crazy.

i don't care if someone has a fro. how would you like to pay a constant tax of time and money keeping your hair straight and unnaturally plastered to your head when it doesn't want to be? how not doing so can adversely impact how you're treated and your professional prospects? some women just get it cut short, and then guys who make comments about pointy elbows sneer and call them lesbians. this is just more stuff piled on top of the massive amount of creepy scrutiny women get, hairstyle, makeup, no makeup, attire, comportment. go to use a public restroom in a shape-concealing puffer jacket and some rando restroom cop puts his hand on your shoulder to stop you. ew.

I don't care if someone has an afro either. I totally get how exhausting it must be to have to manipulate that type of hair as a woman. Doubly so for a woman.

I know I have mentioned the hair thing a bunch of times. But it just drives me nuts when black conservatives or black people in general start talking about professionalism and shit while having long hair or nontraditional looks.
