the executive office and executive appointments in US life have always been distinctly whiffy.

it's one of the more troubling aspects of recent british politics, taking its cue from 'murica: appointing people from totally without politics, without vetting, often times to senior cabinet advisory positions or even cabinet itself.

non-MPs being hastily shuffled through the lords with a peerage or given access to the seniormost levels of intelligence, or getting their hands on the bureaucratic levers ... not good actually, despite what dominic cummings and your technocratic eggheads want.

So far I know 2 people at the EPA whose jobs were cut but then picked up by a different department. Republican efficiency.

The interview was good. You can hear his father's way of speaking and tone especially later in the interview.

I can understand how he got his roles on various boards and committees. Obviously nepotism helped but he probably could look the part and even do some of the work when it comes time to perform.

His personal life is wild. Got his brothers widow hooked on crack. I can't even judge him for any of it. All of the drugs and sex are the reason to do any of this nonsense.

i mean, he's had a hugely traumatic life in many ways, rubbing right up with the global oligarchy levels of privilege. probably dealing with immense amounts of guilt from surviving the road accident that destroyed half of his family. watching his anointed, more respected and altogether more wholesome brother slowly waste away to a vicious disease, etc. many people get addicted to drugs or end up on skid row for much lesser reasons.

i also don't really get the specific and politically motivated ire directed at the biden's for their low-level ruling-caste corruption. of course family members get appointed to boards. what do you think board members are?! you need connections and a bit of charisma/suavity; that's mostly it. i think people would be appalled if they realised just how 'credentialed' the board members of all sorts of august institutions or public utilities really are.

plus the MAGA lot think nothing of trump's entire white house being staffed by his daughter and his son-in-law etc. putting your son on the board of a multinational company in eastern europe seems pretty low-key in the malfeasance stakes compared to letting jared or bannon into the inner sanctum.

Yes, and all the boards are incestuous, every board member invites people to be on a board with the expectation they will then invite them to be on another board. Its a huge revolving mesh network with every board member being on 3+ boards of commercial companies, public bodies, charities etc, extensive overlap, conflicts of interest etc.

Apart from selecting the CEO and rubber-stamping their decisions most boards do literally nothing, most chairmen want board members to sit quietly and not rock the boat.

being on the board is peak establishment behaviour, it’s been the destiny of every upper-middle class son since the dawn of industrial whiggery and the decline of the great land-owning gentry/nobility. it’s no different from gliding into a job in the City or being commissioned as an officer.

of course a president’s son is going to be on some boards. a more relevant concern is whether he’s actually directing his energies towards any good/noble outcomes in those positions of privilege.

maga people i know still think musk and doge are doing great work. the musk/trump falling out coming as a surprise, well after the fact. how disconnected to the news they are. months of catch-up on all but the most carefully curated feed. "i read all kinds of news!" ok

maga today was very concerned about bigballs and supportive of wanting to nationalise the police force. under obama, this would have been a brownshirts move to them.

fuck bigballs.

i wonder how many magas will die of preventable/treatable health issues thanks to doge/trump era cuts to health care and research, still servile to tangerine mussolini and his pet nazi. not that they give any real shits about anyone else affected.

why do our politicians have shotgun incidents?

Shotgun incident
Fetterman was criticized for an incident in North Braddock in January 2013 when he heard a sound he thought was gunfire and followed an unarmed jogger, whom he detained with a shotgun.[43] The jogger, Chris Miyares, a Black American, said that what Fetterman thought were gunshots were kids shooting bottle rockets. Fetterman said no debris had been found.[44] Miyares claimed that Fetterman pointed the shotgun at his chest while he loaded the gun and then aimed the gun at his face.[43] Fetterman denies that he pointed the gun at Miyares and said he only pointed the gun in a way to show that he was armed and that he "didn't even have a round chambered or the safety off."[43] He said he believed he "did the right thing" and has not apologized.[45][43] No charges were brought against either in connection with the incident,[44] and Miyares never filed a formal complaint.[43]

The incident gained new attention during Fetterman's Senate bid, with critics alleging a racial element to the incident.[44][46][45] Fetterman's campaign denied allegations of racism, claiming that Miyares was wearing a black sweatsuit and mask, so Fetterman could not have identified his race or gender.[44][46] Fetterman also added that Miyares was running in the direction of a school and that he made the decision to approach him with the firearm due to the event's proximity in time to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.[44]

In 2021, Miyares wrote that Fetterman had "lied about everything" that happened during the incident, but that he had "done far more good than that one bad act" and "should not be defined by it", and that he hoped Fetterman would win the Senate race.[47]

Yeah, he was always a shit head. I never bought into or liked the "everyday Joe" aesthetic in politics. I resent the fact that I need to be spotless, well dressed, and clean shaven but this guy could roll out of bed and vote in the Senate.

honestly more concerned about the gun leveled at a jogger's head. imagine the impression that would leave on the rest of your life. next to that, a carhartt hoodie isn't even news in a country lead by by a slovenly nincompoop.

i know republicans are performatively shocked at the gun thing. they'd have celebrated the intimidation, injury, or death of a black jogger in many other circumstances.

very strange character arc on this guy. from my distance/lack of interest, i find it very hard to figure him out.

so he's just a typical ivy league zionist stooge but he got elected for wearing a hoody? that's it?

He was Mayor of some city in Pennsylvania. He ran as the "every day guy" against a boring (???) Democrat representative.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/17/Conor_Lamb%2C_Official_Portrait%2C_115th_Congress.jpg/1280px-Conor_Lamb%2C_Official_Portrait%2C_115th_Congress.jpg
Democrats liked him because they thought he could reach out to the (suicidal) blue collar voters who joined MAGA. Then the guy had a stroke. Then he became depressed. And now he is a center right to the point where even his staff is upset.

...

Can we talk about blue collar workers for a moment?
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51iJSGuKdUL.jpg
I really don't care for them right now. They are mostly conservative voters. I am still going to do my democrat outreach and organizing with the ones who are my counterparts in their systems but otherwise I am no longer going to advocate for them.

Same thing with the poor in general. Unreliable voters who oftentimes vote against their own interests. I have better things to do than help those who harm themselves.

Finally, I am not one of those Democrats who feels we need to throw overboard social issues and reach out to these people. Economic redistribution without social justice is basically thievery. Corporations and the wealthy are no friends of mine and they definitely could pay more in taxes. But if you want me to fight against corporations for these ingrates to get bigger paychecks then fuck all that.
