Yes, just let the people die.
People can ya know, choose not to go out etc… we all make choices. Look at those massive protests and riots in Europe even over something as small as a lockdown for the unvacc

dilbert is also purposefully misunderstanding what 'hard suppression' means. suppressing covid means eliminating it from community spread. this is literally impossible and is taken as a fact, implicitly or explicitly, by every government. china, NZ and aus have all dropped their suppression strategies.

is that tantamount to saying 'let's just let all the people die'? obviously fucking not.

measures are still being taken but they need a clear epidemiological end, i.e. to buy time for boosters/vaccinations, to relieve pressure on the heath system during a winter peak, etc. this is where measures make sense and are justifiable. aiming for total lockdowns and total suppression are no longer justifiable. what's the fucking point? you eliminate covid after 6 months of immense sacrifice ... and then it turns up again.

But it’s all the other things that worked, mask, social distancing, venue limitation etc.

Melbs failed badly due to lockdown fatigue as wel, people stopped giving a fuck and didn’t help rule breaking was heavily encouraged by government MPs and Murdoch media.
Mostly it was travel restrictions and quarantine, once it leaks out its essentially impossible to control in the community, which what happened.
Not necessarily. Taiwan had a few outbreaks where it was controlled just by mask wearing. Taiwan only had one lockdown due to horny bois.

It’s whether people are willing to change lifestyle. Melbs has beaten Covid a few times, but can’t keep locking down forever.
also exactly what i've been saying for months. korea and taiwan took very different approaches to australia/NZ and have had better results. no lockdowns through the entire pandemic in the case of korea, and people could still fly to both countries (especially their own citizens, unlike aus).

you're being ironic but dilbert has even cited china's 'zero covid cases' self-reported stats in support of his zany arguments before. whilst a week earlier expressing every skepticism about their stats. he is incoherent.

Heh aus even blocked citizens of other countries from leaving xD. Happened to a friend of mine, even Uncle Sam couldn’t help him get an exit permit. Appanrelty all you need is to contact local MP and voila you can leave.

Aus is fucking stupid for those reasons. Govt wanted everything to open up but yet block citizens from leaving and entering xD.

I think China has controlled their outbreak, but like you said, it’s just a lot of start stop when there’s ways to live with Covid now.

Thats the thing, if you want to open up internally you have to seal the borders, you can't have people travelling in and out just because they want to.

Its worked great for multiple states, just not the stupid ones.

What the fuck are you talking about LOL. They brought their cases to 0 multiple times.

This is aus specific, but guess whose responsible for quarantine… it ain’t supposed to be the states.

again you're being a little bit fast and loose with the figures here.

how many people wanted to quarantine for TAS or WA compared to the figures of incoming passengers/freight for, say, a Seoul or a London?

Thats the thing, if you want to open up internally you have to seal the borders,
if you want to open up internally, you need a lot of meaningful social distancing policies and high compliance from your population. otherwise 1 single case of delta will become 5,000 very quickly, even with all flights grounded.

Lmao one of vics outbreak/lockdown was caused by hotel quarantine leakage from SA.

Don’t be so smug.

really commendable and exportable to the world. why can't the globe manage to quarantine, isolate and suppress as effectively as my state with 200 visitors a week and a population of 2.5 million in a square area the size of europe? i just don't get it! wake up, stupid people!

Erm, a normal day is ~100 inbound flights here, not 200 people/wk.
200 is the covid figure, dur.

at the beginning of the pandemic heathrow alone had 1,300 flights a day. 225,000 passengers.

most cities are not perth. the UK is not SA.

during korea's pandemic, their main airport has still maintained 5,000–10,000 flights per week and 100,000–200,000 passengers. korea kept their pandemic down to <500 cases a day for most of the entire pandemic. know how? because of widespread compliance with social distancing measures.

perth only exists as a city to support mining operations lmao and not to mention the most isolated city in the world.

I'm sure every one of those 225,000 people absolutely had to travel and the world would have stopped if they hadn't.

Lack of air travel pushed up air freight prices tremendously. A lot of freight is moved via passenger airlines.

Biggest winners were DHL, UPS and FedEx.

we have already established that cutting tourism and passenger travel has had bad effects on the economy. you were just shown incontrovertible figures on this subject and responded only by going off on a rant about 'my sister's exam questions'.

make a fucking point dilbert, please. everyone here counter-argues against you. you are stubborn beyond belief.

the world system is as it is. nobody is here calling out its virtues or saying it's perfect. but it is the way the world is, and has been developed over the last few decades. you enjoy cheap international freight and international shipping which, in the main, arrives in the cargo hold of passenger planes. and then you moan about planes and gripe about people's green co2 footprint. you are really a fucking idiot.

what don't you understand about the fact that omicron is going to spread intra-state even with travel restrictions?

jesus fucking christ go and read my post about france that i made literally yesterday. you were being a smug cunt and i PREDICTED EXACTLY THAT NEWS ARTICLE. you dumb fuck!

1 day 18 hours ago, dilbert was exultant and saying this:

Thank god the French aren't as stupid and one-eyed as you.

As we've been hearing, France is set to tighten Covid restrictions for travellers arriving from the UK, as its government tries to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.
and yet a news article today talks about their more-or-less uncontained spread.

let's look back to what i said in response to his misplaced smuggery, shall we?

i'm sure tightening travel restrictions will stop the spread of omicron, considering its r-factor is estimated at between 3-5 at present.

if france even has a few hundred cases of omicron at present (they're reporting 170 so expect it to be 10x higher), closing the borders will do nothing. to retard the spread of such an infectious disease, you need full-scale lockdowns or circuit breakers at the very least. let's see how 'smart' and guided by scientific thinking the french are in coming weeks, shall we? i mean it's not like parisians can't spread it to one another on their packed metro system during rush hour and christmas shopping season.
WOWSERS!

dilbert you are a moron.
