Yes, there is some math concept that uses a Native American sounding name.
The teacher was suspended for now while they investigate. There was a yearbook photo of her with the same headdress in 2012 with a blurb about doing the dance in math class.

I would like teachers to have more freedom with classroom activities and such, but I wonder in what universe would this be a good idea for current times.

If you read the description on the video the kid complained that they "felt like violence was being committed against them". Good lord.
The kid will probably be moved, the teacher quietly reinstated after a dressing down, and life goes on but with this lady being probably embittered towards Native Americans. Mission accomplished?

If she comes out of the experience embittered, then maybe she'll have taken the wrong lesson. That's not the kid's fault. Where in the curriculum does it tell math teachers to put on a headdress and whoop around class? Did she adopt a native religion? Does she go to the events?
What was the point of this? Was she counting steps? Three hops to the right and a spin, "MATHS!" To what end? Imagine if a teacher did a blackface minstrelsy in the middle of a chemistry class.

Part of the issue with this stuff is that the punishments are often overboard. There is no way to make things right. People don't even accept apologies.

You're going into admin, what would you recommend if an apology doesn't work? Transfer the student to another class or school? Or transfer the teacher to another school?

I understand turning it into a stereotype chant to help drive it in, but that sounds like a strategy best left in your own head and not turned into a big show in your classroom, whether or not it has a native american student.
