I met two americans today who were trump supporters (unicorns to me really), it was interesting to see them wave away literally all his media blunders and controversial statements. Even the 'mexicans are rapists' bit. They were convinced his policies were fantastic, and held the opinion that if he could 'speak like Obama' people would worship Trump.
What also struck me is that they were very steeped in some sort of self victim complex. They felt they couldn't ever talk about their views in the USA and that white men were hounded by the democrats/liberal media/population at large.
Another point of interest was that they felt Fox News wasn't at all an overly biased source. Liberal media was just as bad. Also, my opposition to Trump/Fox was because of my own bias.
It was sad in a way cause they struck me as otherwise reasonable. I just don't understand how they managed to decouple Trump's statements and actions entirely, and also strongly believed that he had tons of merit in what he did. 'The economy was booming under Trump'. Also insisted Biden is terrible & would be worse, even despite Trump's covid handling.
