Have you ever seen the 8th wonder of the world, the New Jersey Turnpike?

Did you know NJ has two giant highways? The 9th wonder of the world, the  Garden State Parkway exist too.

Are they really taking it down to one lane, or is it temporarily pending construction of something else? If just one and done, that sucks. A lot. Sharing a road in your family car sandwiched between the Amazon truck and some deranged Swifty, not my idea of a comfortable trip.

What is going on with those street names? Am I having a stroke or is it all disjointed?
Elaborate? Everything makes sense to me.

SR 99 is a remnant of the decommissioned US Route 99. We have I-5 now. On this map, you have S 348 St, S 356 St, S 360 St in neat order. 16th Ave S and 28th Ave S also in neat order. Then SR 161 running parallel to SR 167 to the east. Odd one out is SR 18, south of the following:

SR 20. Which way do you feel like driving? North (technically State Route 20 Spur)? South? Or East?

Leaving South Carolina. Would you believe I was so sad leaving my relatives I wanted to cry? Thank God for Facebook and modern communication technology.

Not really a FWP but just wanted to share.

What do you think of the street names in SC? The ones here seemed to blow your mind.

My hometown is laid out like a grid. Having different numbered streets in different directions is confusing and poor city planning.

It's not too bad. Ave goes generally N-S, St goes generally E-W, for a large area spanning multiple cities. As you get into denser areas or ones with sometimes more level topography, the street layout becomes more obviously grid-like.

It's not the whole of the story, though. The snapshot is for Federal Way, but here's a wiki on Seattle:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_layout_of_Seattle

NJ doesn't look devoid of spiderwebby road layouts either.

I left my blue aviators in South Carolina. Literally my favorite sunglasses. Maybe the people down there will find them and assume they are the latest in sunglasses technology.

Someone on Reddit suggested buying expensive Ray-Bans. Their logic is you will better look after and take care of the sun glasses if you are expensive instead of cheap. Not sure about that logic but I do like the ones on Amazon.

only a few sunglasses brands are worth the extra moolah. they are generally better constructed, more durable, a nicer fit on the bridge/nose, etc. plus actual glass lenses as opposed to plastic.

ray bans are over-rated. but aviators and wayfarers are classic designs. i would actually try and find a similar shape/profile from a better brand, preferably one that isn't just another nametag and SKU for luxottica.

If you're willing to drop three hunnit, Facebook partnered with Ray-Ban to bring out camera-equipped Ray-Bans

That's cool but I would prefer to have cameras in my eyeballs so nobody will know I am recording them and I can share all the interesting stuff because

I'm sure you'll recommend some $$$ brand. How you even afford clothes between the 300 pound shoes, 500£ earbuds and design sweaters

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory makes a frequent showing on social media, may be partly relevant here. I'd rather spend $$ on a decently made pair of shoes that will last rather than $ on a replacement pair every year or so that make my feet sore. Never felt the need to order them custom made from France, but I don't really care if someone else does.

Had to pay a graduation clearance fee. $100 but it covers the cost of your diploma?

i don't really buy 'designer' sweaters. i buy smallish brands that use good materials and western workers (which tends to drive up the price), not the 'fashion brand' stuff where you pay $200 for an acceptably made garment with a logo or name on it. i'm not some 'streetwear' rube who will spend $150 on a supreme tshirt or whatever. i don't buy the 'hypebeast' limited-edition-collab sneakers that cost $500 and make you look like an overgrown prat (like many other people our age, as i'm sure you know).

my point with ray-bans is that they've been acquired by a generic parent company and you're paying extra for the name badge only. the materials, construction, factory, etc, are all basically identical to 'budget' glasses at this point. that's how luxottica works. so am i fool for recommeding bespoke specs, or are you a fool for thinking you're the cool dude, spending 25x the cost for a logo on the arms and 'RB' inscribed in the lower left lens?

and, yes, for things that you want to last, i just buy the quality item the first time around. glasses/sunglasses, shoes, coats, etc. i'd rather have a small but high-quality wardrobe than 10 cheap pieces of shit to choose on any occasion, and which will probably wear out and need to be replaced in 6 months. the shoes i bought can be worn with just about any outfit, smart or casual, at work or out at night. why wouldn't you opt for the well-made, comfortable, durable option?

in the case of eyeglasses or earphones: i wear them all day and whilst i work. why would i choose something cheap? or uncomfortable? or poor quality? even in the case of the £1100 earphones, the cost/hr is fractional when you consider i have them in my ears for 6-8 hours every day. that's a small expense on a very important personal hobby/passion (music). how much did you spend on your fancy home weights again? how much do people spend on golf clubs? or pokèmon cards?!

My optician hates me, I always buy the cheapest Sferoflex crap, they're perfect for my sartorial whatever.
Chances are they're going to be dropped repeatedly, maybe fall into a machine, I only expect them to last a year and I'm rarely disappointed.

I need up to date lenses for work, prescription changes yearly, I can't be bothered getting frames re-lensed, thats just tedious

Getting to the point I need about five sets at any one time.

Driving
Sunglasses
Computer/Reading although close to needing two separate
Workshop
Shooting - ISSF - mono lens is cheap enough to update
Shooting - WA1500 - old computer glasses work OK

my prescription hasn't changed in about 4-5 years, luckily. before that it was slipping like -0.1 pts per year, hardly enough to make my old glasses useless.

i can understand why you'd get cheap and replaceable pairs if you have to maintain 5 sets of glasses. i normally have 2 pairs of optical and some sunglasses.

Prescription changes regularly, also the astigmatism wanders

They also double as safety glasses at work, and in the outside world, so 'style' glasses are pointless.
So many times doing nothing which would have warranted safety glasses I've had something ping off them, when if I didn't wear glasses I'd have lost an eye.
It does make me slack about wearing goggles and I've had some narrow squeaks there.

i prefer to mark-up proofs using a palomino blackwing pencil. too much crossing out and re-revising involved.

not much is done outside of a digital desktop-publishing environment thesedays. proofreading only, i'd say.

the book launches and wet lunches with authors/agents/staff can be fairly lethal. have i mentioned alcohol is bad for you?
