I think one of our worst failings through the latter half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st is that we somehow consider democracy a prerequisite for good governance. Myanmar looks to be another country that will go to shit because their civil society, bureaucratic and democratic institutions just weren't developed in a way that they could sustain a stable democracy. This goes for both the rule of aung san suu kyi and the military coup of the last week.

Strange how some regions, cultures, races have never had democracy or good governance and are never going to.
Its as if the world has a massive shit-stain across half of it.

What do you mean 'never had good governance'. Literally every part of the world had their own golden age at some point.

I am really resentful of right wing sources questioning Biden's commitment to Catholicism because of his support of access to abortion. The same people calling Biden, a person who attends church every Sunday, a fake Christian worshipped Trump just a little while ago. Trump never went to Church had had every single deadly sin.

Trump could be literal Randall Flagg with glowy red eyes and demonic powers and he'd still be considered necessary for God's Plan for the USA.

I think Islam and the other Abrahamic religions are a symptom more than a cause.

Its as if someone dropped a stupid bomb on the ME 4,000 years ago and the effects of stupid radiation are still making people stupid.

4000 years ago, when middle eastern civilisations were flourishing while the rest of the world was still tribal...

Amazingly they're still tribal while the rest of the world is less so.

You seem to project the current situation on both the past and future. Dilbert, if you read any history book at all you'd understand that things change. The fact that Europe and Australia are stable today does not mean they still will be in 50, 100, 150 years' worth of time. The fact that there have recently been several wars in the ME does not imply the region can never recover. This notion that the qualities of a people are inherent to them is blatantly false. 4000 years ago we were throwing sticks and stones at eachother while in the ME you already had functioning empires with complex economies, scientific communities and architectural achievements that still stand today.

But I guess that must be a painful truth to confront if you insist that hwite ppl are genetically superior to all the others. Why then did it take us several thousand years to catch up and did we only get ahead when the renaissance came? Perhaps, Dilbert, there's other factors to consider than your dumbshit eugenics argument...

As things stand today it seems fairly clear.

Meanwhile, Indians are importing the caste system to Australia.

Cultures have hurdles to overcome. US for example, racism, class discrimination and ongoing sexism to name a few. India, racism, caste discrimination and sexism to name a few. Your negative obsession with Indians is maybe misdirected. A homeless person in the west mucks around in no less filth to live in and eat than some Indians are put through. Additionally, Australia on race doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the world.

So who does?

Pretty well all those countries have experienced democracy and regressed.

Even if that's the point you want to make, democracy can't take hold in a society that doesn't have institutions to support it. 'Spreading democracies' was a seriously flawed idea.

Well its funny, pretty well every colonial country had "institutions to support it" put in place, they were all burned down or corrupted when the europeans left.

In the places the europeans remain the institutions are still functioning fine.

China, Russia etc have half-dabbled in democracy, they have "institutions to support it" in place too, but they're thoroughly corrupt there also.

I don't think a lack of courts, police, govt ministries, press etc is the problem.

no they didn't dilbert. Colonial countries were kept under an authoritarian grip of the colonising country. In some cases to the extreme. Ever wondered why French colonies haven't fared well after decolonisation? Because all the bureaucracy was literally centralised to Paris.

For democracy to work you need a strong civil society, independent judiciary, a good balance of power with the bureaucracy etc - where was all this in former colonial nations?

Well obviously the French are rubbish, also they got the second tier countries after Britain picked the best ones.
