We have some of these at work that are basically the size of an external CD drive, they're pretty cool

That sounds fantastic but I don't really want PCs to go the way of cart-before-the-horse printers. Sell the PC at a loss then nickel and dime with service fees. Ugh, I can see it now.

Fair enough for a little word processor and web browser I guess. For me, I probably wouldn't trust anything much smaller than

But then I still run the occasional game and productivity app.

I do like the pop-up handle on this case. So much better than the straps I used to use for a larger Lian Li (the side plate edges were freaking serrated so have fun carrying it just under an arm).

VDI docks? that’s what i was talking about. our office is almost 80% these now with imacs for the design work. they’re ... okay. all the usual problems you’d expect with slowdowns and memory/processor allocation when about 200 people are using clusters at the same time.

those cases are good enough to run top-end graphics cards and games. there’s videos of linus tech tips putting like top-end intel CPUs in them with nvidia titan GPUs or whatever. they’re very well made. the main drawback is the inevitable noise/temp and the fact they cost 2.5x a decent consumer case.

you would have to have a screw loose to pay $300 or whatever for one of those cases intended for a word processing machine. you could buy a whole PC suitable for that.

also that is the exact case i do have. the portable handle is very neat. you can see my build pics in the thread.

fair play, for all of their miraculously fast fortnite-playing processors, iphones are still hunks of shit at updating their own iOS/firmware.

a minor incremental update, i.e. the latest .1 revision of the iOS, takes AN AGE to install. a full 10-15 minutes to flash the firmware, multiple restarts, slow grinding unpacking and installation ...

Month 3 with a MacBook:

I like some of the stuff like the magnetized charger port that has a light on it to let you know it is doing it thing. I hate the inclusion of a Command button that does stuff I am used to the control button on a PC doing while there is still a control button on the MacBook. I do not like the fact that the window resizing buttons are on the left instead of right. Seems like something done only to differentiate it from Windows.

I have little interest in trying to learn MacOS or whatever it is called and just use the thing are a second screen to handle attendance/monitor Chromebooks while logged onto classes on my Win PC. I appreciate that the thing isn't forcing updates like Windows though neither would Ubuntu.

Glad I don't need a new video card for a PC build. I'd have to drive out of state to a microcenter. I can appreciate that a 3070 is an appreciable upgrade by like a 50% benchmarked margin to my 2070, but nothing has really stressed it all that much.

Will probably wait for a gen after when there's some appreciable breathing room for true 4k, +.

NVIDIA had the gall to send me a "3070 recommended" ray-tracing emailer for Cyberpunk 2077. One of the cards basically nobody can get right now outside of buying a new pre-built.

hahaha classic. I've also been on the hunt for one; with obviously no luck.

The only way I'd order one right now is if Keanu Reeves would hand deliver-it, signed. I'm pretty sure my current system could be optimized for the game, 2070 Super and all.

e: CP2077 is really being pushed right now. I just saw their sponsorship on the hot ones video with The Undertaker.

dunno the timestamp

they are roping in a bunch of hipster bands and cool techno DJs too, giving them character model cameos and stuff in the game. it’s everywhere. they’re taking a GTA approach with the the multi-media assault.

part of me thinks it is going to flop hard. the gameplay footage itself looks crap. i really want to like this game but ... once again ...

I think the devs asked people early on not to preorder it. I don't know if that was legitimate sentiment or just a love letter to the part of gaming social media that hates pre-ordering. But at this point I'm just getting sick of seeing it. No pre-order bonuses last I checked on Steam, and I hope there's no exclusives for all the gamestops and best buys out there either. That's always bugged me.

An uninspiring composition for the leading screenshot into this article:

Cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing gameplay and RTX PC requirements revealed (11/20)

Some of the ray tracing shots kind of remind me of the look some older games have when given a remaster. It's definitely not the worst looking game I've seen, but for all the tech on display here it somehow still looks a little dated. Wouldn't stop me from playing it if I thought it would have a lasting impact like VTM Bloodlines though.

i just don’t care about ray tracing.

It's more exciting from the prospect of level design because you can light things more naturally and more quickly than with all the little tricks you'd normally have to employ to simulate those effects. I think some designers got so good at doing this that the ray-tracing advancement in video cards just doesn't look like much of a boost to some viewers.

For some things I guess you wouldn't want hyper-accurate lighting, though. I get that too.
