The kids budget is 80 bucks.....

I sure hope you dont work in the IT Field, Always trying to sell more, you are going to have alot of angry customers.

You suggested a new system, thats fine, makes sense. But he said no, and you keep suggesting new systems. Now conroe has been mentioned. I mean WTF?
the budget is $160.  I don't see how putting a bandaid on it would be very good.  I mean he would basically be adding 600mhz to his computer... whoopdidoo.  It would be far better to save up for a few months (or however long it takes) and get something that will give an actual performance increase.  From what I can tell he may see an increase of 10-15 fps, which is some, but not comparable to a jump of 30-50 if he would spend the little extra and save.
Considering the fact he is most likely going to need to rebuy windows (im thinking this is an OEM build) Get a new mobo, video card, and CPU. As well as A new PSU. That may be a bit out of this kids reach.

I was simply stating that, If you are working on a call, and they want Random Part A, and you suggest an upgrade 2x-3x the orignal budget, and they say no...you cant keep badgering them about it.

Why not drop 80 bucks to keep the system over till a birthday/other holiday where he can get a major upgrade.

EDIT: I dont see a duct on that pic? Looks like everything will work fine. And yea...a can of air to take out that dust wouldnt hurt.
I'm one of the most stubborn people you'll ever meet so I won't consider any of the overspenditures anyway.  I forgot to take a pic of the air duct, i'll have one in about ten minutes.

I once took it out about two months ago and kinda rinsed a tiny bit of dust out of the heatsink, and now I can actually hear the fan running, lol.
Rinsed? As in water?
Yes, water, that was before I reached idiot level knowledge of a CPU like right now.  I sure as hell won't ever do it again.  It made BF2 and pretty much everything else run faster but it's too damn risky.

Get yourself a can of pressurized air and blow all that shit out of there.

If you don't know anything about it, don't do it. You risk blowing up your video card.

Graphics cards aren't the only thing you can overclock, but I don't know much about how to do it and what can be OC'ed.

God, that would suck.  Especially if it was a video card that didn't even have OC capabilities, that would blow up the whole comp, lol.

"blowing up"?  Never seen that in my days without voltmodding and putting a ton of volts into something.  Just by overclocking it won't hurt it, just maybe make it unstable.

bennis, please make a new thread about the subject, that or do a google search.

So, judging by those pics, do you think this will fit in the duct?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835106024

Luckily my current fan uses the same type of mounting as that one, the double clip-over thingy.

I think it will work fine with the duct thing. Leave it to OEMs to have stupid duct things. I know Dell has them on there desktop series.

I think it's a good idea, i've looked inside two of my friends OEM type comps and niether one used a duct.  Then again, both of their comps were E-Machines.  Or did you mean it's a crappy system of ducting?

Should I buy some Arctic Silver 5 in case the processor and the heatsink/fan don't come with their own thermal paste?
