lol 'not a foody'. you're talking about margherita pizza, here. it's about as simple a peasant food as you can get.

if you made your own dough it would take about 30 mins. 5 if you buy a base.

is this why all americans are going to die of coronavirus due to comorbidities like obesity, heart disease, high BP, diabeetus, etc?

a healthy, young 39-y.o. mother shares a video online of her experience about coronavirus and how badly it affected her. and online trolls abuse her for faking the severity of her symptoms. she has a cannula and a catheter, lmao. she will die without respiratory aid. and people are still accusing her of 'hyping' coronavirus's risk.

it's like the Jays of this world are reared on weird-internet news and are immune to fucking factual reality. everything can be spun into a partisan 'it's the loony Left' point. a video of a woman with pale, oxygen-deprived lips, wheezing and coughing, is still 'liberals spreading panic'. lol.

how old is jay and his wife? hope they're safe.

all pubs, cafes, restaurants, public institutions, etc in the UK ordered closed for the foreseeable future.

social distancing predicted to last for the rest of the year.

the government will pay 80% of the unemployed's wages.

it's actually unreal what is happening right now. pub culture is basically the social engine of the UK (for better or for worse). the national way of life has changed overnight, probably for the first time since world war 2, and on similar 'pivoting to war-footing' terms.

god knows how a country which was, apparently, in a suicidal deficit in 2008 with a modest welfare/unemployment bill can suddenly afford to pay a third of the population 80% of their wages. the whole system is going to implode.

The president – who repeatedly downplayed the threat early in the global outbreak – has this week been hyping an anti-malarial drug, chloroquine, as a possible therapeutic treatment.

“It may work, it may not work,” he said on Friday. “I feel good about it. It’s just a feeling. I’m a smart guy … We have nothing to lose. You know the expression, ‘What the hell do you have to lose?’”

This was originally his campaign pitch to African Americans.

Introducing Pompeo, Trump referred to “the deep state department”, referring to a favourite conspiracy theory which holds that a network of bureaucrats and intelligence officials exists to frustrate the president’s agenda, but which Steve Bannon, who has promoted the theory, has said is for “nut cases”.

Panic, Nonchalance, Precaution, and Responsibility

Fires happen occasionally, albeit very rarely. They could be said to have a very low ‘mortality rate’ across the population. The aggregate cost of outfitting adequate fire escapes almost certainly exceeds the costs incurred by fires — or ever likely to be incurred — by several orders of magnitude. But, in this realm, we do not weigh up saved lives in economic terms, within reason. Nobody would accuse proponents of fire escapes of inciting panic. Nobody says we should wait and see if we really need them. If proponents insisted every single door in the world be a fire escape, every wall fireproofed, and every employer required to subsidise a fortnight’s training in fire preparedness, then this criticism would probably be merited. But if all they ask is for fire escapes, I doubt many would see a problem. Moreover, during a rapidly spreading fire seems an odd time to start making such a case.
it's funny that jay works in HVAC and can't wrap his head around the above analogy.
This is all well beyond requiring fire escapes in tenement buildings.

I don't like bad math extrapolated from small sample sizes made into policy.
I don't like it when people try to gain their 15 minutes of fame and fan the flames of misinformation because they want to be quoted as an expert. It doesn't have to be political, but it should be filtered through an official source. Having one voice in a crisis is best. What Karen has to say should be ignored.
China sucks in general.

ok jay. so you should just let a virus spread uncontrolled and 'work itself out'.

80-90% of the population will become infected in the space of half a year.
you have about 10,000 ventilators available.
each serious case takes 3-4 weeks to clear an ICU.

compute
???

LOL complaining about 'small data sets' when we already know through behavioural computer modelling HOW VIRUSES SPREAD, i.e. exponentially. we long ago had estimates for the contagion factor of coronavirus that put it as 2x as contagious as flu, another disease which we have studied extensively in the past on yuuuuuge data sets.

do you know the difference between deduction and induction? i thought you were criticising my math and logic skill?

Anyway, it looks like the death rate is going to end up at about 0.8%. Compared to the flu, which is 0.1%, it's scary. If one were to extrapolate the number of flu deaths out from a normal year, we'd hit about 176,000 deaths globally from the coronavirus. With all the insane measures we're taking right now, I'd think it will hit maybe 40k tops, hopefully. We'll see.

Stay safe everyone. Unfortunately, I work in what is considered a critical industry and still have to go into work. Everyone else in New York is basically on lockdown right now besides groceries and health services.

We have fundamentally different outlooks on life. I am optimistic by nature and expect things to work out. You are naturally pessimistic. We're never going to see eye to eye, and frankly, it's pointless.

I wish you the best of health.
