I miss gaming, haven't played anything in years apart from in friends' houses and I'm feeling nostalgic

I want to get back in the sack and to be able to play everything on max. What do I buy?
I'll build it if I have to but ideally I just want to order something and plug it in, where would I go for a prebuilt 'gaming' PC

If you want pre-built check ebay for anything with a GTX1080. It will run BF1 on max. Doom and max. etc So much so you'll probably want to buy a really good monitor because 60fps and anything less than 1080 will be your only bottleneck.

looks like a lot of them work out cheaper than buying components?

I gave up looking for prebuilds and was looking at something like this:

That looks quite good, especially the upgraded video card.

Be aware though that you really want a gold standard PSU but this one listed is bronze so I suggest you replace it when you can. (If your psu stuffs up it can ruin the whole system).

You'll also need to install a new hdd, just use the included for your OS.

This one doesn't seem to have a HDD, only an SSD.
And with 120GB, you'll quickly run out of space.

I have a 256GB SSD with Windows 10, Office 16 and a few other applications installed, but since games easily need 50GB or more nowadays, I can only ever have a couple of them installed at the same time on the SSD.

I can feel my old system straining at the newer, more demanding titles, but I barely play any for a good length of time. Games I play don't look much better on high, and in some cases look worse (7 Days). Keep readying myself for that next system, but I just don't see the cost/benefit of moving out of a dusty i7 2600 with 16GB when I get more chuckles on Mario Maker troll maps.

The new monitor is nice, though.

e: ibuypower should have some good deals coming up if they aren't active already.

This is pretty much me too. I am trying to decide if there will be enough difference in building a new system and keeping with my i5-2500K. I may just pick up a SSD drive and maybe more ram, but outside of energy reduction, I haven't seen enough that shows me an upgrade is going to give me much more than I have now with a 24" monitor.

the next system i buy will be for a 144hz monitor. waiting for a game to come out that will be worth the $1500–2000 expense, though.

overwatch and cs:go just ain't cutting it.

never going to go above 24 inch for fps games, i just don't like the huge screen space. i actually played my best on a 21.

that is a very sexy screen though.

yeah I'm in the same basket, i could never warrant the price it would cost me to continuously upgrade my graphics card to support my insane pixels on a 27 inch.

24 inch, and increase my hz. this is what I want.

though if i had endless cash, ofc i'd buy a 27 inch, and ofcourse i'd upgrade my card on the 6 monthly, but hey, i'm middle class vov

i actually prefer 21 inch for gaming purposes, i just feel like it's all more 'there' and present. i gamed happiest on 90–110 FOV and 1650x1050 monitor. 24 seems more than enough for me. one of my friends has one of those insane, slim, curved monitors ... i'm like, how do you actually focus and concentrate playing games on this? a 19 inch square CRT would be better.

no question they are more immersive and impressive for casual gaming, though.

Larger monitors are nice for people who want to increase a shooter's fov to xenomorph levels without having to squint at the center of their screen. I like my 27" over my old 25" for titles like World of Tanks and Subnautica, but I do sit back from it a bit.

come to think of it, my 24 inch screens do sit much further away from me than the 19 inc screens i had before them.

I guess perception wise they're most likely the same size...

I've bought the x34 predator and ultrawide is pretty sweet to be honest.

I don't think you could really tell the difference between 100 to 144hz but you certainly do going from 60 to 100.

It is interesting reading all of the talk about the new AMD CPUs coming out. I am just sitting here wondering what is there to be hyped about? What games are out there right now that make being an early adopter of a new series worth it? The bench markers use games like Metro Last Light and Witcher to test the CPUs. Those games came out in 2015. Do you need 20 more FPS in Witcher that badly?

i've felt the same way about most hardware upgrades since 2011. i don't need another 30fps on my tf2 client.
