My property taxes pay for the schools, fire department, police, roads and the local government offices. Cops and teachers are overpaid here.

You are a suburban New Yorker. You are supposed to blow thousands of dollars a year sending your kid to the local private Catholic school.

In NJ, the average spending per student is $19,000. My hometown is $15,000 and your town is much nicer.

Which should tell you the quality of the Catholic school education. Catholic high schools are only good for putting your kid around other upper income spoiled suburbanites. I think the local Catholic schools had bigger drug problems than my own.

The tuition of these schools are roughly $50,000 each just to commute. Unless you are willing to pay college tuition prices, you are wasting your money.

Unfortunately, the high school I went to is now $32k/year. Can't afford that

higher is worse.  I've heard the Seattle real estate market is really taking off.  Also read that a lot of parts are getting gentrified.

It bothers me how much the average American will argue gentrification is a 100% cool process.

I don't think higher is better. I think the 600k I paid is absolutely ridiculous and wish I had the balls to pack up and move to South Carolina. I wouldn't even have to take much of a pay cut, and my wife wouldn't take one at all. My quality of life would improve tremendously. Alas, all my family is here and it's scary starting over with no friends around.
