Based on the number of posts in EE Chats, it will be as follows:

Linear regression:

BF2S Ended ~May 2013

Polynomial regression:

Should start picking up from June/July 2013 then the sky's the limit

Exponential regression:

Most likely peter out and die ~ Dec 2014

The only other forums I frequent are the Crown Vic forums and that's just a bunch of angry conservatives, a handful of moderators who think their logic is infallible, and one guy that actually knows what he's talking about but rarely ever pops on.

social media, reddit/4chan, etc.

although i don't think those new forms assimilate the entirety of forums/mailing lists and their benefits. i do thing something is being lost in the transition. people are going from topic-specific discussion forums to 140 character tweets. just another way that technology and culture is getting dumber. people went from reading books to reading the internet. now they read news-feeds.

Remove EE(hat$ and let singular threads open again about random crap. It was only necessary to have one consolidated thread when so many people were posting, not this few.

Same with DSTChats for the same reason.

EE Chats was the beginning of the end. I remember when the mods were strict about threads and spam. Killed the random discussion.

Agreed. The fact that those threads end up with hundreds of pages worth of posts just looks to me like they could have been a few dozen threads with more detailed discussion from more people.

I've been saying this forever, end the stupid all-encompassing chat threads and let the forums come back to life(or at least as much as it's still capable of coming back to life). One or two of the other mods were even onboard with this, I don't know who still isn't at this point.

whether it's one big conversation or lots of discussions, people aren't going to come back when it feels like new posters are so stifled. the mods are essentially baby-sitting a creche of 5-10 active posters, and any newcomers probably find that their shit gets AWM'd or deleted in the first week or two. it doesn't make any sense.

i don't do anything to stifle new posters. i talk to dilbert and jay in discussions and that is it. i contributed normally to androoz's thread. i didn't flame. i complained when he got banned/thread was deleted. i think it is counter-productive.
