When seeking outside capital investment, it helps if you don't gut property laws and make it impossible for the investor to recoup their money.

I think someone is just a little bitter about the cold war. I'll forward all your post about how great Russia is and how the US lacks freedom to the pussyriot members serving a two year prison sentence for whatever heinous crime(s) they have committed.

the platonic ideal is something to do with plato's transcendental idealism - his ontological system, of 'essences'. it's popularized in the allegory of the cave, which 15 year old high-schoolers the world over are familiar with. there is no 'platonic ideal' of a man - unless you start talking about gods, or the soul as an extracted essence.

in the republic it very quickly amounted to a form of fascism. in ancient greek 'democracies' hardly anyone could vote - only the top 1% of property- and land- holders. the common man (and his helot slaves) were barely even considered human. plato's republic is all about an intellectual 'philosopher king' elite running the show and commanding all of the decisions, because the little man doesn't know any better. in plato's republic he even controversially banned arts and creativity - despite being a great lover of them himself - because art, poetry and drama especially, were in the business of 'telling lies' and presenting reality 'not as it is'. 'philosopher-kings' = mussolini's rhetoric. banning all experimental and high-culture art, because of its potential to mislead and confuse the masses = hitler's kulturbolschwismus (banning of all non-party art, regardless of left/centre/right affiliations).

the republic is anything but progressive. it is fascistic and totalitarian. the only way people talk of plato or the ancient greek philosophers as being genuinely 'progressive' was in the way they were all - obviously - pedagogues and put a prime focus on education and learning. that was education and learning for a very reserved, elite minority of the society, mind you. they were not proto-liberals. to call plato the "founder" of progressivism is hilarious. galt has not read the republic. if he has, he understood it about as well as he understood hegel. notch another pseudo-intellectual wank-post to his impressive post of erudition.

I understand full well the Platonic government model, what I don't think you understand is American politics. Fascism is a form of totalitarianism, and it is only superficially different from Absolute Monarchy. Oh, I know, one is based on flag waving and for the greater good speeches while the other is based on hereditary birth, but that's all superficial crap. The root of both styles of government is a single man, or a small council, ruling the masses by decree. Now, how is that all that much different from what we have in America here today? We have five hundred odd people running the show for over three hundred million. Those five hundred odd people have a re-election rate above 90% not because they are the best people for the job, but because they've designed the system over the years to maintain their position. They gerrymander, they change campaign finance laws, they put limits on who can show up on the ballot. We have the few ruling the many, and the slight differences in ideology between the two parties in power is more for show, to give the illusion of choice, than it is real. Instead of Plato's world where philosophers ruled, we live in a modern world where people with money and the proper bloodlines prevail over everyone else. Instead of courtiers we have lobbyists. Instead of a king, we have a "choice" between one turd or the other every four years, both of whom represent two sides of the same coin - ever expansive government enriching and empowering those in charge further. Republicans and Democrats are both Progressive, and their Progress will lead us to a world where those born to the wrong family will have to ask permission to wipe their ass. You should be terrified of this as well, because the information age gives those with power infinitely more tools to surveil and control than they have ever had in previous ages. It will be much harder to remove that "Boot stamping on a human face forever" this time, especially when so many have been convinced that disarming themselves will lead to a better world. Lol to that.

i don't really know what you're talking about, or how any of it has anything to do with plato's republic. there is no progressivism in plato's republic. if the current american system is starting to tend towards a totalitarian impulse, that's probably a combination of a media/technology converging on the individual and subduing their better interests - with distractions, and with forms of control. passivity is what is allowing the american state to assume more power than it is granted. not plato.

totalitarianism is different from absolute monarchy in that the subjects of totalitarianism at least nominally worship that power, and bow to it. fascist regimes tend to be elected regimes. people love those who subjugate them in fascist states. under an absolute monarchy, the whole system of appointment is genetic/hereditary, or based on some myth of divine right or somesuch. in fascist states, although they aspire to mythic status very quick (viz. neoclassical architecture, pageantry, revision of history), they are not mythic. they are mass-exertions of a collective Will (q.v. schopenhauer and nazi's misguided poster-boy, nietzsche). they are cults of action, rather than political deliberation or rational thought. fascism in that regard is pretty different from a monarchy.

and, again, none of it has anything to do with plato's republic. plato was not a progressive. plato's republic didn't really have anything to do with american politics, either. you took your queues from post-enlightenment europe: from france's politics; from the thought of a western enlightenment tradition; from the ethics and theology of a protestant character. plato is a pretty long ways away from that, rationally.

keep blustering, though. your posts are paratactic and idea-rich, but seemingly low on actual reading. at long as you're impressing yourself.

i also don't see how "arming selves" is relevant at all, when the forms of control you talk about - technologized - take place in a virtual-space, with a service that everyone is consensually using (you could say addicted to). if i stockpile M16's will my internet use be more guarded?

"seeking investments"? you mean "printing coupons and exchanging them for real money you didn't earn, then printing more coupons when time to pay back comes"? that's called "ponzy scheme". look it up.

not even a railroad can be build on more than half of those "highly fertile lands". and, guess what, most of the "huge oil and coal reserves" are right under those parts of the lands. and, as i said, no ponzy scheming allowed - that's only for the free and the brave.

If America or England were to start putting artists in labor camps whenever they protested or made fun of our leaders, we'd suddenly have millions more people in prison and nothing to watch, listen to, or read except 'pop'.

i don't "bitch". it's the americans that run around trying to make a big deal of themselves - they even bomb people around the world based on their notions of what's "freedom" and what's not - when in fact they are exactly the same as everybody else. the OP kinda makes the point.

This is like watching two midgets fight, its hilarious but I feel kinda sad now.

Both of you (Shahter and Extra Medium) are arguing against yourselves at this point.  Neither of you realize that your extreme beliefs are what lead to programs like PRISM and other forms of government corruption just from opposite sides of the spectrum.
